Kinda assumed it was coming, but man, not given a lot of time. Can't imagine Charlie will have a tough time finding a gig if this is true. Would FSU consider him if Jimbo heads to LSU?
October 3, 20169 yr If anyone is shocked they shouldn't be. He was fighting an uphill battle from the second he got to Austin. It was already reported this morning that Strong was taking over the play calling duties from Bedford, that's never good. That coaching staff is on the ropes.

Why let him go out and recruit players that he may end up taking with him to another school if he gets hired elsewhere? Go ahead and fire him and make the recruiting mantra be about Texas and being part of a new direction. Get kids who want to play for Texas first. If they fire him now, would it be better for this year's recruiting?
October 3, 20169 yr Coaches are given so little time now to implement their system. However, at Texas, they are not devoid of talent. So when they see other coaches take over tradition rich programs and have immediate success, it resonates with boosters. Also, Charlie doesn't appear to be the most endearing of people, but that could be just in how he handles himself in front of the media.
October 3, 20169 yr Gotta be honest, I was never greatly impressed with Strong's coaching at UofL and was never as high on him as a lot of others. Maybe I'm in the minority, but something just seemed to be missing to me. I think that's being exposed at UT. Just one man's opinion.

The frustrations a lot of Louisville fans had are amplified by the situation at Texas. He never seemed to care about special teams and never had an alternate plan when the game plan he had wasn't working.

October 3, 20169 yr The frustrations a lot of Louisville fans had are amplified by the situation at Texas. He never seemed to care about special teams and never had an alternate plan when the game plan he had wasn't working. This is along the lines of some of what I was thinking. Didn't seem to be able to make adjustments. IMO, to be considered a good coach you HAVE to be able to adjust and adapt, at least in as much as the team can.

Before he ever stepped on campus there were several big money boosters that were not shy about voicing their displeasure about him coming to Texas. When you have the big wigs against you from the start, your days are already numbered.

He was great for Louisville at the time, and he helped Louisville take steps forward after Kragthorpe. He get Louisville back to being relevant. That being said, he lacked in areas. He is not offensive minded, many think he held Teddy back. His staff put ZERO effort into special teams, something you are now seeing at Texas as well. Getslow touched on a couple other things as well.

October 3, 20169 yr How can you blame them? I'm sure the AD at Texas has had the big names in his ear whispering "if we don't get Herman now he is going to LSU and we may miss out on one of the best coaches of the next 20 years"
