Did someone actually complain that they hired him????

They complained about the practice of how he was hired, which is a bigger deal.

I guess. If you have the opportunity to hire a coach of his caliber, you do what you have to do!

So a Boyle board member is about to forfeit some of his responsibilities with the program because he helped land Chuck Smith back?

I think he took the right risk!

Thanks and for the record I met Jacob's dad, loved him!

And maybe this is wrong of me to say but if I was a Boyle Booster (and I am fan of every KY high school football team contrary to popular belief) I would have been of the same mindset as Mr. Tamme.

And... maybe we are going to need some new Chuck Smith Facts.

Chuck Smith once ran for the School Board. He won all five positions.

So forgive me if I fail to get worked up over it.

Kinda my take

There seems a sense of KRS overreach when you have Superintendent, Principal, and Athletic Director all desiring to lure a very successful high school football coach for the program. They needed to create a competitive statement to land him. In business the C.E.O.'s involvement is the strongest statement of committment and support that can be made. To prohibit the Board Chairman from assisting on the recruiting team seems fundamentally narrow minded overreach to me. But, the wisdom of Frankfort has never been in question! The fact that the complaint was ever filed seems like sour grapes from someone.

Chuck Smith posted Hudl highlights using his Nokia brick phone back in 2001

Chuck Smith's team never lose games, they just defer to the next season.

Dale Mueller's retirement was the direct result of making eye contact with Chuck Smith

I disagree with everyone who doesn't see an issue here. There are lots and lots and lots of local school board members who care way more about personal agendas than what is best for employees, students and the district at large. Personally I don't even like having elected school boards (I generally don't think having 5 - often times lacking any educational background - elected citizens have input into how professional educators run their "business" is not all that beneficial; however, I guess there needs to be some kind of oversight). Policies, procedures, rules... whatever you want to call it ... limiting the power of school board member is a very good thing.

While most Boards run on the up and up, there have been many cases in the past where Board Members controlled every hire in the system. This ensured their perpetual re-elections by having all said employees and their families supporting them out of fear of losing their jobs if new board members were elected. The above mentioned KRS and teacher tenure mostly alleviated that problem, allowing teachers, cooks, janitors and others to work without worrying about the outcome of the next election.

How is that any different then any other government controlled board? I have worked my entire career for a board that has had one member in 24 years that has direct knowledge of what I do.

Don't see the big deal here in this situation. Not sure the Big Rebel Nation is going to care much about this. The administration did what they had to do to bring back the most successful coach in school history.

Once someone thought a board of education got Chuck Smith hired for a coaching job, Chuck Smith told them, "no one gets Chuck Smith hired except Chuck Smith".
