What is the issue? CK and his ilk are peacefully protesting during the anthem, the anthem is the lightning rod to gain the attention. I get what you are saying, but you under estimate The Offended in this country.

 

It's funny.....many of those offended by his protest are the same ones that are constantly telling people they are too easily offended.

It's called deflection. Folks would rather talk about the method of protest than truly deal with the issues. "Protesting the protest" is a lot more comfortable.

 

I am so sick of seeing "not talking about the real issues".... please if we are not talking about the real issues enlighten us! The only thing I've gathered from the protests is that their is social injustice towards black people in this country which is so vague I really don't know what to do. What can a normal person (non police officer) walking the streets do to help out the black community?

I'd rather not put the thread to rest, maybe the posters saying we aren't talking about the "real issues" will bring up the "real issues" and some possible solutions as to what we all should be doing to better the country. It's very easy to say "we aren't talking about the real issues" well here is our chance someone start talking about them???

 

It's not easy to talk about them because no one really knows what the issues are because everything is based off perception. White people don't understand the social injustice because we don't see it everyday. We need a black persons perspective as to the social injustices that they experience everyday. Please open our eyes to the issues the black community faces daily other than the vagueness of social injustice. A little more detail may go a long way.

 

Hell if CK would've given more detail about what he is protesting I would bet that the conversations would be more so leaning to his actual protest rather than the form of his protest.

Good point. It couldn't be proven in the court of law that OJ killed Nichole so I guess that people should quit saying he killed Nichole.

A normal person? Not much for real. A issue bothering black people right now and one that Kaepernick spoke on is that unarmed blacks have had fatal occurrences with the police and nothing is done about it. Of course no one can agree with what was seen on the videos or why the incidents happened in the first place. That's one issue.

 

I've mentioned instituationalized and systemic racism in the other Kaepernick thread and that was another discussion.

 

Brandon Marshall is meeting with police officers in Denver for round table discussions and that is a positive. I imagine other protesting NFL players will have opportunities to meet with community leaders and establish communication as well. It won't happen overnight but the more open minded communication taking place the better.

Come on, I'm glad you've been non PC today. Athletes aren't the same regardless of skin color. White, Asian, Black, doesn't matter. Fried in "public" court regardless of outcome. It's not their struggle that matters anyway. To circle back, I'll say this, I hope that there are serious conversations because of the recent events and those that will surely follow. I think I'm finally understanding some of the differences. And here's the thing, while perhaps you and I may view some of the ideas, some of the circumstances and angles similarly, I'm white and I don't live it. I go home and seldom give it thought. Frankly, that's been a bit of a wake-up call for me. Maybe that's white privilege. Maybe that's why I struggle to define it. Just spitballing here.
