I keep hearing let's talk about the "real" issues from you posters of the same pigmentation. You mock people who might get offended by disrespect of the flag.

 

But a topic was started about "Solutions" some of us offered ideas and discussed things. Many of you didn't want to leave one comment in it. Is it because you have nothing to say or would you rather sit in a thread like this feel morally superior in front of the black posters but you yourself not really engage in a real conversation.

 

It's seems many of you only want to discuss why others should not care about protesting the flag instead of discussing real issues.

 

I'm not pointing out names but many of the posters who keep saying let's discuss the real issues have yet to discuss them themselves.

 

So again this isn't directed at PP92 or Deuce if they want to discuss anything PP92 at least knows I'm willing.

I agree FS1 has had the best discussions. They have had disagreement and agreements. I've been watching a lot more FS1 of late.

A normal person? Not much for real. A issue bothering black people right now and one that Kaepernick spoke on is that unarmed blacks have had fatal occurrences with the police and nothing is done about it. Of course no one can agree with what was seen on the videos or why the incidents happened in the first place. That's one issue.

 

I've mentioned instituationalized and systemic racism in the other Kaepernick thread and that was another discussion.

 

Brandon Marshall is meeting with police officers in Denver for round table discussions and that is a positive. I imagine other protesting NFL players will have opportunities to meet with community leaders and establish communication as well. It won't happen overnight but the more open minded communication taking place the better.

 

The first bolded: So far the instances that have caused riots and looting in the streets have been proven that the cops were acting within their rights. But the media blows it so out of the water with bias that the police are bad a racist. I understand where people would get upset in those situations and want to act out but then weeks later we find out the "victim" actually had a weapon or disobeyed police officers to the point where they had no choice but to protect the general public and take action. Yes!!!!!!!! This is what I was getting fed up with in my post #107 and 111. It is so tiresome listening to people in these threads on their high horse moral pat on the back blah blah blah you wanna talk about the issues.... then my god talk about them.

Come on, I'm glad you've been non PC today. Athletes aren't the same regardless of skin color. White, Asian, Black, doesn't matter. Fried in public court regardless of outcome. It's not their struggle that matters anyway. To circle back, I'll say this, I hope that there are serious conversations because of the recent events and those that will surely follow. I think I'm finally understanding some of the differences. And here's the thing, while perhaps you and I may view some of the ideas, some of the circumstances and angles similarly, I'm white and I don't live it. I go home and seldom give it thought. Frankly, that's been a bit of a wake-up call for me. Maybe that's white privilege. Maybe that's why I struggle to define it. Just spitballing here.

 

That is a part of white privilege. It is hard to define because there are a lot of facets to it. What you said is definitely seen as one of the facets to it.

 

I do enjoy being non PC sometimes but I also recognize it isn't always the best approach for me to take.

Everyone sees different things when they watch the videos and as folks say, believe half of what you see and nothing that you hear. I don't condone any rioting or looting in any situation after the Rodney King beating because it does nothing to help the situation and it muddies the conversation. I think there are way more good officers than bad officers patrolling our streets. I definitely don't believe there is a war on cops but I do think people are crazy these days and cops need to be way more aware of the crazies than ever before. I feel like I should be allowed to criticize police officers involved in situations like those without being deemed anti-police. I feel the police will always have the advantage in those situations before, during and after these situations play out and as more and more officers are cleared and found to have been within their rights to how they had to act in those situations there has to be some true dialogue from both sides in search of understanding.

He doesn't mean any disrespect he just thinks he is never wrong. Because of that aspect of his personality I pray he acts how I told him to act the day he is pulled over.

 

I don't know any white people concerned about what could happen to their kid the first time they are pulled over by the police.

I have some difficulty thinking that white people don't worry about how their kids conduct themselves around police. Funny thing, I have an encounter with the police I will tell you in private if you're down to hear it.

I know it will never happen but the media needs to stay unbiased when these things happen and I believe that will help the situations from escalating before the truth actually comes out. I know that not every cop out there is a good cop i've seen some stuff happen to my roommates in college that just wouldn't happen to a white person, however, I think that the overwhelming majority of cops are good and want the best for everyone they are trying to help.

Which solutions thread are you referring to? The one about drugs or the one about interracial sex? I didn't take either of those to be dealing with this topic.

The first SOLUTION is to get past what's keeping many on here from having a discussion. If you can't get past your issue with CK or his method of delivery or the words he used or...we'll never get to the solution conversation. We've been talking about this for 2 weeks now and we STILL have threads FILLED with "he disrespected the flag" "he's a backup qb" "he's rich" "he's not really black" "what does he know about police harassment" "Minister Farrakhan...""show me a law that says it's different for blacks than whites".... We can't get TO the discussion about solution.

 

Then if we ever did it's still a problem. If you fail to acknowledge the problem exists then what's the point of a discussion about solution.

 

IF you do believe the problem exists and you then say "well give me a solution" there is NO silver bullet that you're looking for.

 

I can't tell you to love your brother equally. You have to do that. Are you the "moderate white" that MLK feared worse than the KKK? Are you afraid to stand up to your white friends and say "hold on now - let's look at this differently than we have?"

 

It's either in you or it's not. You either show your children (the people who hopefully will find the solution) that it's not a "them" issue but it's an "us" issue or you teach them that "well it's unfortunate but , hey, what are you doing to do?"

 

Saying that someone has to have a solution or the complaints about the issue is either ignorant or it's a diversion tactic.

You literally said nothing again. I know racism exists but I want to discuss solutions. Everything you said I do in my life.

 

But I want to discuss issues and solutions. Obviously there isn't a silver bullet , there is no such thing for any problem . It be naive to think otherwise.

 

If we will feel there is an epidemic of officers shooting black people then how do we solve it ? While I may not agree with that specific statement I think more can be done to earn trust between the black community and LE.

 

So some reasonable ideas I've read , can LE do more to recruit minority candidates? What else can LE do to create trust between them and that community? Is their different types of training that needs to be done to diffuse the negative energy in relationships between LE and their community.

Also if we agree urban communities need more opportunity , then what needs to be done. Are their ways locally to fix education. Can we put different job training platforms in urban communities to give youth different paths to success.

 

If all you got out of my post in the Solutions thread was drugs then you are purposely being obtuse. But I put it as a topic because the war on drugs was one of PP92 biggest beefs and an area where I found common ground. Which is normally what reasonable people try to find in a discussion
