Dabo Swinney:It's so easy to say we have a race problem, but we got a sin problem"

Featured Replies

On MLK from another thread:

"Too bad he's dead. We'll never know so his thoughts on how things are now don't matter in the slightest."

I'll also add that folks don't want to have a true conversation about MLK the same way folks think what Kap did is worse than what Ali did and isn't even comparable to be great Ali. MLK would currently be public enemy #1 right now if he was alive. I don't want to ruin people's image of him but if folks are really ready to take that step start an MLK in 2016 thread so we don't distract from the topic of this thread.

It seems contradictory to state that his thoughts on issues today don't mean anything, then suggest starting a thread discussing MLK's thoughts on the issues today. Just my opinion.

I'm a complex individual who has admitted multiple times over my 10 year membership of BGP that I can be a hypocritical human being. I am flawed and far from perfect. I don't know what else to tell you.

And his thoughts today don't mean squat. Doesn't mean I can't tell you what he would be thinking and doing.

Its seems to get lost in the shuffle you can have peaceful protest and it still be in terrible taste . Just because something is deemed " peaceful " and not burning buildings or over turning cop cars does it mean the protest is respectful to our country .

So how would you tell black people to protest against their perceived social injustices? What kind of protesting would you like to see black people do against perceived social injustices?

Didn't MLK use church funds for white prostitutes or something? He would get killed (verbally) in todays society.

Just my 2cents. I think CK started this protest and it's morphed. I think in hindsight he probably rues having sported the pig socks, whether he'd admit that publicly or not. However, in the end, it's led to fruitful conversations and brought a peaceful light to the situation no matter what anyone thinks or says, to be honest. I can say some of the commentary I've seen and read has been educational for me anyway, and without this whole protest, I'd probably never given it any thought.

The March on Washington seemed to be a pretty peaceful, yet effective protest. I wonder if a protest of that magnitude could be conducted today without it devolving into utter chaos and riots?

I'm not sure on the skin tone or if they were prostitutes but I am thinking he had an extramarital affair or three.

There have been at least two different million man marches in Washington DC since the 1990s. One as recent as a few years ago if I am not mistaken. I'm thinking Louis Farrakhan organized them.

Of course. However , to waste so much time avoiding the real debate is interesting.

He would be linked with Jesse and Al.

The same Farrakhan who has called stated "If the federal government will not intercede in our affairs, then we must rise up and kill those who kill us, stalk them and let them feel the pain of death that we are feeling.”

“[Vice President] Biden said that Hollywood members of the Jewish community single-handedly made same-sex marriage legal. . . . You’re God’s chosen people? And you promote something that God rejects? You’ve lost your covenant status! You are not the chosen of God, you are the chosen of Satan! . . . You’re promoting homosexuality. God doesn’t. You promote filth. God condemns it!”

....Doesn't sound like a great person to lead a peaceful protest, imo.

Well he's managed to bring one million black men to Washington DC on two different occasions with no damage to DC so he must be doing something right.

I find myself thinking the same thing a lot of times in these controversial threads (and Politics forum when it was open).
