I agree with what Dabo said and thought it was well done. I don't have an issue with CK staging a peaceful protest. I agree with the core of his message if it's blacks are not treated equally in this country. He hurt his cause with the socks and general comments of police killing innocent blacks. Facts do not support those comments and anyone looking for a reason to ignore the message has it. I also believe a different method of protest would have been better because again he's given people a reason to ignore the message. Some will always ignore the message not matter what protest was done however something as controversial as this magnifies it. I think the goal should be to get as many to the table for dialogue as possible and this method has fallen very short of that. It's not CK's fault but at this point does that matter? I say all of this while admitting I don't really know what a better option would be. I do like the players that have chosen to raise a fist instead of kneeling. It enough of a gesture to bring attention but can't be construed as a sign of disrespect.

 

I wish I knew the easy the answer but as long as people have a reason to bury their heads in the sand to avoid talking about the tough issues they will. I really hope in the end this whole things brings about at minimum the beginning of change.

No I know, but he was brought up as the organizer of the Million Man marches in DC. In my opinion, a protest cant be peaceful when it is being lead by a man who is a noted racist, antisemitic and homophobe and who spews his hateful rhetoric throughout his speech at the allegedly peaceful protest. PP then said that none of that matter, and that he was at least able to bring a million black men together to DC.

 

Keep in mind how this discussion developed. PP asked how black people could protest social injustices. And I answered by bringing up the March on Washington, and questioned whether or not this could happen today. PP then said that Louis led the Million Man Marches. I will disagree that the Million Man Marches, led by Louis, are peaceful protest similar to the March on Washington.

Yeah and no one cares about those idiots. But people in a position like CK openly doing it is a disgrace.

Here, yes. We would and we did. What I'm not sure I'm seeing is much outside of here. Any talk on my facebook feed is 99% focused on CK's method and not the message.

 

To be honest nothing will change over night I guess. It will take generations of change to really make a difference. Talking about it is great, if nothing comes from the talk then whats the point.
