I know, no idea why the KHSAA has not updated their yearly records as they restored the wins. I can't remember if it was 2009 or 2010 when they restored them and now include them in win totals.

From brief research, No State Champion at least since 1998 has lost more than 3 games in a season. The exception to that being Newport Central Catholic twice, Louisville Central twice, and the PT team that was mentioned.

 

I would argue that with the current format that no 4-6A team will win a state championship with a losing record. Many of the better 1-2A can't get teams in their class to play so I could see a potiental smaller school making the nearly impossible happen.

 

In 2006 NewCath (10-5) started the season 1-4 & 2-5...then became the FIRST, and I still think ONLY, school in state history to win all 5 playoff games on the road to win the 2006 1A title.

When Mike Mitchell was ruled ineligible leading into the Championship game. Highlands finished the season at 2-13. Talk about a classic thread.

 

For purposes of this thread I was eliminating forfeited records.

 

All Highlands wins were restored several years ago, I believe they went 15-0.

The courts gave an injunction and said Mitchell could play and the KHSAA overruled them and said he was ineligible so Highlands forfeited the wins. Highlands appealed long after Mitchell left and won. I believe KHSAA rule now says a team can play a player if the court issues an injunction.

I was very aware of the situation then. I was a starter on both sides of the ball for the 04 Boyle team. Coach Smith told us not to pay attention to it but it was hard not to. It was all over BGP and the newspapers. We as a team wanted him to play but he could not and Highlands rallied on that and kicked our butts for the second time that season haha.

 

Glad to see it clarified the rules for the future and we hopefully will not have a fiasco like that again in HS football.

IN 2014 Trinity was 5-5 in regular season and played 11 of 15 games on the road including all 5 playoff games.

Right - 2014 State Champ Trinity Shamrocks were 5-5.

That was a fun schedule before Trinity was moved out of the Super District. #3 in the district going through 5 road games to win the championship. Do we have another 3rd place district finish to ever win State???

It was in 82 that Corbin won state. In 83 it was Ft. Knox and 84 was Newport Catholic. Somerset drilled Corbin at Corbin late in the season in 82 but didn't get into the playoffs after dropping a 28-27 contest at Boyle County.
