I dont know how to break up stuff to quote you.

You are missing the whole point, or avoiding it. Remeber We are talking about SPORTS here.

Do we agree that 95% of the kids that go to Private schools live in Jefferson county. YES

And T and X win with kids that all come from jefferson county anyway- Right

Then Why would they not just say "To stop all of this fighting, We will stay in jefferson county, Since that is what we are doing anyway, except for one or two kids. We see that that if public schools could take kids from anywhere that would be a big mess, The easiest thing to do is for us just to stay in jefferson county and you all The Publics stop all of this other non sense and finger pointing."

The answer to your question is this:

In addition to intellectual growth, Trinity fosters the spiritual formation of her students. As a pervasive ethos on campus and the center of the Trinity experience, the Catholic culture provides a solid foundation for the development of responsible and benevolent young men with strong moral values. This supports our mission: “To provide students with a superior high school education in a supportive atmosphere based upon Christian values in the Catholic tradition.”

Regardless of whether a student plays a sport or doesn't, the mission statement remains the same. In neither public nor private schools should a student be denied participation in extracurricular activities of any sort based upon their address, IMO. This is assuming, of course, that all KHSAA bylaws have been adhered to in determining that students eligibility in sports.

you can sit here and say it is not fair for the three family's that live in Nelson County or the two that live in Clark, IN. They have the right to attend X.

SURE they do and if it means that much to them then they would move 20 miles. And you are wrong residency has alot to do with where a kid can play and when - look at the transfer rules.

As I said above, if the KHSAA bylaws have been adhered to, then there should be no issue regarding residency. There are many reasons that families choose not to live in Jefferson County. Public schools do not generally accept out-of-county students due simply to funding and space issues. Jefferson County, for one, will accept out-of-county students on a space-available-basis, and charges a nominal tuition. How many take advantage of that, I don't know. Private schools are 100% fee based, and at many, the decision is not limited to space limitations.

I look at it this way, if a family lives 20 miles or more from the private school of their choice, and they are willing to still pay that tuition and make that daily drive, they've actually more than demonstrated that the school is worth it.

I guess you are just one of those people who would not sacrfice a few for the common good. Kill one person to save 1000's. Which is fine. But to me to stop taking in those 5% to stop all this BS would well be worth it and plus would be fair to everybody. The publics would not have anything more to say. Then when T and X beat the snot out of everyone no one can point fingers and say that kid is from IN or Nelson if we could have him we would win to.

I don't believe there is anything unfair as it is. The whole issue is about choice. To limit the choice of the minority is actually limiting the choice of 100%. Because whether or not everyone takes advantage of their ability to choose, limiting that ability for the 5% limits everyone

I have to add that I don't understand this compulsion to essentially bring the private schools in line to the public supporter's way of thinking. I don't understand why the only way that could be fair is the way that public schools are proposing. I firmly don't believe that just because the majority think something, it's necessarily the right way to think.

what about the best little actor in nelson county I am sure He/she would love to go to YPAS at Manual or Ballard and majior in it, but he/she cant. FAIR - no, but those are the rules. If his or her family wanted their kid to get that education then they would move to jefferson county. If it was not that important to them then thay would stay. You can always What if and say what about This ONE or two Examples it is not fair to them. Looking at the problem and finding the easiest and best solution to the WHOLE (95%) not everyone is a good thing.

Actually, if you check out the JCPS website, you'll find the details of the out-of-county admissions I summarized above.

While I disagree with almost all of your quote, I particularly agree with the concept that we should do what is easiest. Your proposal may, in fact, be the easiest way of solving this "problem", but doing what is easiest is not what we should strive for in sports or in life.

Furthermore, your proposal, in my opinion, is not best for anyone. Its not best for the private schools, its certainly not best for rights of parents to be able to send their kids to the high school of their choice, and I personally don't believe it best for the public schools in the long run. If anything, its only best for the public schools, kids and coaches concerned about the instant gratification of winning a state championship this year, the easy way.

What are you talking about. How is it going to hurt the private schools the 5% I am sure the will make up by working harder to consentrate their efforts in jefferson county. How does it effect the rights of the parents. So what you are saying it is ok for the rights of the public school parents to have limits but not the private school parents. That is what we have now, is it not. if I am a public school parent in Jefferson county I cant just take my kid over to Jeff IN and put him in school there, or anyother county for that matter. I am saying the Private school kidds parents have the same right as the public school kids parents, And that would be to send there kid to ANY school they want in jefferson county. How in the world am I all of a sudden bring down the walls of justice on the parents of the private schools, and trying to shut the doors at the private schools. Again as soon as someone mentions change the attacks come out of the walls. And this BS about eastiest is not what we strive for in sports. Again that is what I am saying the easiest way is the best way:rolleyes: how old are you 80. YEA your right lets make more rules and laws that no one can follow or understand, but it was the hardest way and that shows character:rolleyes:   That is what my grand-dad would say. Read what is written. FOR THE BETTER OF THE WHOLE THE 5% WOULD BE LOST. IF the whole is stopping the fight between private and public. WOULD IT NOT BE THE EASIEST \FAIREST SOLUTION. It would stop all the talk about feeder systems and if you played 8th grade here, or went to 8th grade here and want to go there, and have to sit out 1 or 2 years for this and at what levels. ON and On and On. But According to you this is better because it is not the easiest thing to do. COme on I am giving a common solution to end all this and still no compromise just simply finger pointing and saying that wont be fair for these few families or better yet THAT IS TO EASY AND THAT CANT BE GOOD.

I'll ask again since I got ignored.

Does the BR90 Home County Rule apply only to private schools or does it apply to public schools that take students from outside their home county as well?

FWIW as far as I'm concerned any rule that will prevent even one student from having the option of choosing a private school AND being able to enjoy all aspects of High School life including sports must be fought. Trampling the rights of the minority is fairly un-American isn't it?

So what you are saying it is ok for the rights of the public school parents to have limits but not the private school parents. That is what we have now, is it not.

IF there are limits placed on public schools, they are limiting THEMSELVES. Don't get angry with private schools if they do not to accept public school limits in regards to who may attend. Since YOU don't like the rules YOU force on YOURSELF, why not CHANGE THEM? Stop being angry with private schools because we take a different course.

IF there are limits placed on public schools, they are limiting THEMSELVES. Don't get angry with private schools if they do not to accept public school limits. Why don't you simple apply the "freedom of choice" to the public system instead of trying to regulate the private schools?

This argument tires me. They are limiting themselves in the same manner that McDonald's limits themselves from selling snow tires. It is not what they are designed to do.

I'll ask again since I got ignored.

I ignores because IF YOU READ I said must live in jefferson county for both public and private.

AND again I guess I am an Commy along with our president and our congress look at what is going on now. WE trample the rights of arabic decent americans to say we are fighting terorist. Those laws were passed not to long ago. Give me a break.

OK OK YOU guys WIN AGAIN; YOUR RIGHT, EVERYONE ARE JUST A BUNCH OF WHINNERS AND SORE LOSSERS.

One of the MANY problems is that you are taking away the competition. What will public schools strive for. Right now they have the competition of private schools and other schools and very few public schools are striving to exceed the other. Most are just complaining that it's unfair. Locking kids into a school system and eliminating choice is un-American.

It amuses me that a public school advocate is pushing the "easiest" method when in fact some would think it's easier to outwork, academically and athletically, the other guy so it doesn't matter what's "fair" or "easiest". I sure am glad my kids are in one of those school systems...

This argument tires me.

TEll me what do you think would happen if anyone could go to any school they wanted to. YOU Honestly dont think or know for that matter it would be total chaos. Come On you want to throw the whole state and federal school system out on its ear just to say "WE arnt going to change mikie you change 1st" that is Mature. So to you it is better to put 90,000 kids in chaos(jefferson county public school kids even though all kids would be effected) Instead of changing the 5% of the private school kids, WHICH by the way according to private supporters there is only a handfull of families that live outside jefferson county. But it is all about the kids isnt it. YhEA RIGHT.

OK OK YOU guys WIN AGAIN; YOUR RIGHT, EVERYONE ARE JUST A BUNCH OF WHINNERS AND SORE LOSSERS.

This part I agree with

Chaos? I thought Jefferson County already has open enrollment. Did that cause chaos?

that is Mature.

Not buying this for a second. When JCPS went to open enrollemnt there wasn't chaos, when busing started there wasn't chaos (at least not in school operations but that's another story). In both those situations major changes took place and the schools stayed open. What it would do is force the JCPS and other school systems to invest in all of their schools. They are mandated by law to provide ediucation to all comers. If you allowed all parents in Jefferson County true choice in what schools to send their children to the competition would encourage those underperformers to get their act together or close. That is not a bad thing in my mind.

What federal school system? There is no such entity. You talk about maturity, well how mature is it to expect an entity that you don't agree with to change the way they do things just because you think it is unfair. That's more then just a little egocentric don't you think.

Tired of the truth?

Not a comment worthy of you RF.

Truth is that it is the Deming School district's responsibility to educate the youth from Robertson County. It is not their responsibility to educate youth in Harrison County. In Bracken County. In Pendleton County. In Mason County. That is not their job.

I only see two reasons why a public school would go open enrollment. 1)increase numbers; 2)athletics. (Let me preface this by saying, I am talking about out of county. I understand why Kenton or Jefferson County would give the choice for any school within their county since it is ONE Board of Education that controls the whole county.)

Truth is that it is the responsibility of a private school to educate the youth in which their parents want their child's education to be based in a particular faith. It is their responsibility to educate youth from anywhere that their parent's have such desire.

BOTH are the truth. It also means that both are different. Different does not mean one is better than the other. Simply they have different missions.

As I said earlier, they are apples and oranges lumped together in a basket and we have a contest to pull out the best fruit.

BOTH are the truth. It also means that both are different. Different does not mean one is better than the other. Simply they have different missions.

Good. Missions aside, some MAY have different acceptance policies. I tire of publics telling us we must change our policies to gain their acceptance.

I think your opening lines make the point better than I could. This isn't about what would hurt a private school. You may be right, eliminating students from outside Jefferson County MIGHT not hurt the school, but it would hurt individual students. The school exists to serve the students, not the other way around. That is a very important point. You are suggesting that we throw some of our students away as a means of placating others. Ain't gonna happen. As far as limits on public schools regarding out of district students, a particular district may have good reasons to impose limitations on itself regarding the residence of its students. That is not for me to judge, but any limits are imposed by the district. Not all districts choose to impose those limits. Since I pay taxes to support those schools, it would be my desire that they not impose those limits. If public school students could move to a different district I think it would exert a positive competitive influence on the schools.
