Interesting point, although not well informed. As an illustration, at Trinity, the percentage of kids from public middle schools on the football team is much lower than the school as a whole. This year, 20 of 22 starters are from Catholic schools and ALL starters are from Jefferson County. Next question.

Fine then I bet T wont win the state this year. And I was not missinformed. If you read I said when they win state. If T can play with players inside jefferson county this year WHY NOT EVERY YEAR??? Would that not be the simplest soulution to all of this. But if you look at the State champ teams you cant say that can you.

I think your point would be more an open enrollment/boundaries issue than public/private. There are several public schools as well as private schools that bring in students OUTSIDE of what would be considered their normal boundaries. That is NOT just limited to a private school.

What you are forgetting is that there are several Catholic kids who play for Catholic grade schools but attend public schools. These kids belong to that parish and must attend Sunday school classes to be eligible.....So who does this kid belong to???? .....My answer would be ...no one!...this is the USA...and he/she and his/her family should be able to choose where he goes to school without someone trying to punish him/her. This country is great because of the freedom to choose.......OOh and for the record ...there are 3 kids from where I coached (private grade school) that are attending Male High school and playing sports......And I'm not crying about it....I wish them well because that is the choice that was best for their family

Good, then why dont they just say we will only take kids from Jefferson county. Come on, one of the founding thoughts of the US was public education. Think of the mess it would cause if we were to say OK everyone can go anywhere they want. That is what you are saying right, Every kid should be able to go anywhere they want, right. Kids from IN comeing here kids from here going there, kids from other counties going here and vis-versa. That would cause a big big problem. it would be easier for T and X to say, OK 95% of our student body comes from jefferson county anyways, we should only take students from there. No Problems to me. Then all would be fair, I never said public kids cant go to catholic schools or vise-versa, just make them play by open enrollment rules. What would be the big deal about that. You would still get all the kids your going to get now. (or at least that is what I am hearing from you)

So, you have a problem with kids who live in communities without Catholic high schools commuting to attend those in Louisville?

I notice you keep saying "Catholic" schools. Does your animosity extend to Highview Baptist or Christian Academy? What about Louisville Collegiate?

Also, there were no thoughts of public education in this country from it's foundation. Education was important, and a goal, but was considered to be for the wealthy. Education was a private endeavor. Most often provided by churches to the members of their congregation (IE Puritan) or private tutors.

 Actually, I though it was about freedom from oppression, pursuit of happiness, liberty, etc. But that would not fit so nice into your argument, would it?

I'm pretty sure the founding fathers would be just fine with a family deciding to send their children to the school of their choice in the pursuit of happiness.

yes if they want to play sports with the big boys then yes. Wont that be fair? And there is no Animosity that is something that privates always take when anyone tries to come up with a solution that will make a change for them. I just dont think that if ALL private schools (is that better) say we will stay in jefferson county, that is a big deal or change, since as stated eariler on other post that 95% of the stundent body comes from there anyway. that would go a very long way and would put a end to all these privat public talk- That is the main Goal is it not. Thanks for the history class. You cant argue that would not be the easiest way, and the best way for everyone.

So then in your world view should public schools that accept students from outside their home county also stop that or is it just the private schools that would have such a limitation?

I personally don't think it's best to say that we'll only take students from within Jefferson County. If a family has the means, and wish to pursue a private school education, I don't feel they should be limited by their address.

Also, the only reason I asked about the Catholic vs. Other private schools is because you've specified Catholic schools in your posts. So, I just wanted clarification.

That is the whole thing there has to be some limits. anytime you have limits some people will be left out, that is how the world is. But the majority wont be effected. As I have read on here a thousand times about people find ways to make it work for them to send there kids to private schools (two and three jobs) then if education means that much to them then they would have to move to jefferson county, if not then stay and go to the school where you live. Nobody said it would easy for everyone but it never is.

Actually, we do have some limits. Those limits are set by whether a family can afford the tuition, provide the transportation, buy the books, pay the lunch fees, etc. You see, nothing at all is free in private education. Even with financial aid, there are thousands of dollars to still be paid. We don't choose who attends our schools. The students choose us.

Your talking about two different issues here. Financial means, and residency. One does not necessarily beget the other. Yes, many, MANY families (including the students themselves) work multiple jobs to pay for the costs of attending private schools. The cost is worth it to them.

As to those who may live outside Jefferson County...If they are able to afford the tuition, and have the means of transportation, they obviously feel the private school education is worth it.

As to your last statement....I'm unsure what to glean from that. Are you saying that if it takes working multiple jobs to afford the tuition, private school parents should not do so? Are you saying they should just enroll their kids in the public schools? I'm not sure what to take from that, or how it fits with your other arguments.

Nobody said it would easy for everyone but it never is.

You're right. And that's exactly what the argument of the private schools is.

BR90-

Is it fair to say your view is that Private Schools in Jefferson Co. should only allow kids from inside Jefferson Co. to play sports?

You're right. And that's exactly what the argument of the private schools is.

I dont know how to break up stuff to quote you.

You are missing the whole point, or avoiding it. Remeber We are talking about SPORTS here.

Do we agree that 95% of the kids that go to Private schools live in Jefferson county. YES

And T and X win with kids that all come from jefferson county anyway- Right

Then Why would they not just say "To stop all of this fighting, We will stay in jefferson county, Since that is what we are doing anyway, except for one or two kids. We see that that if public schools could take kids from anywhere that would be a big mess, The easiest thing to do is for us just to stay in jefferson county and you all The Publics stop all of this other non sense and finger pointing."

you can sit here and say it is not fair for the three family's that live in Nelson County or the two that live in Clark, IN. They have the right to attend X.

SURE they do and if it means that much to them then they would move 20 miles. And you are wrong residency has alot to do with where a kid can play and when - look at the transfer rules.

I guess you are just one of those people who would not sacrfice a few for the common good. Kill one person to save 1000's. Which is fine. But to me to stop taking in those 5% to stop all this BS would well be worth it and plus would be fair to everybody. The publics would not have anything more to say. Then when T and X beat the snot out of everyone no one can point fingers and say that kid is from IN or Nelson if we could have him we would win to.

what about the best little actor in nelson county I am sure He/she would love to go to YPAS at Manual or Ballard and majior in it, but he/she cant. FAIR - no, but those are the rules. If his or her family wanted their kid to get that education then they would move to jefferson county. If it was not that important to them then thay would stay. You can always What if and say what about This ONE or two Examples it is not fair to them. Looking at the problem and finding the easiest and best solution to the WHOLE (95%) not everyone is a good thing.

Just wondering what you have to say about this BR...

While I disagree with almost all of your quote, I particularly agree with the concept that we should do what is easiest. Your proposal may, in fact, be the easiest way of solving this "problem", but doing what is easiest is not what we should strive for in sports or in life.

Furthermore, your proposal, in my opinion, is not best for anyone. Its not best for the private schools, its certainly not best for rights of parents to be able to send their kids to the high school of their choice, and I personally don't believe it best for the public schools in the long run. If anything, its only best for the public schools, kids and coaches concerned about the instant gratification of winning a state championship this year, the easy way.

Just wondering what you have to say about this BR...

Fine Like I said I am sure they live in jefferson county. Also it took a court ruling for male to take kids outside the traditional system. Like I said I have no problem with public school kids going to private schools or vis-versa as long as they LIVE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY. DO they play football?
