Belfry can't beat Bowling Green, Scott County, or Saint X

I like what I see from NewCath on video.

 

Henschen is starting to look more and more like a D-1 talent. He has always had the physical tools but didn't exactly have the pocket composure and seemingly struggled with locking on receievers. He is doing a much better job of checking down and also extending plays with his feet.

 

I love NewCath's height at WR. They basically trot out 4 or 5 guys 6'2 or greater and all have nice athleticism. I also love their LB and DE unit. Sutkamp is a player and Neff is a physical monster. NewCath has one of the most physically imposing looking LB and DE units in KY outside of 6A. I think their LB's and DE's are their best unit and I think their size and physicality will present some issues for Belfry especially on the more quick hitter stuff they do between the tackles.

 

Where NewCath is going to have big trouble with Belfry will be the LOS on both sides of the ball. Last year NewCath had a huge O-line which was able to help negate a little bit of Belfry's strength along the D-Front. NewCath is smaller and quicker, but the combo of Horton and Bentley will really give them issues from a shear strength difference. NewCath's D-Line is not very big as well and without a Lawrence to really hurt Belfry with his speed and first step explosion, any time those Belfry monsters get a hat on a Bred DL it is going to be advantage Belfry.

 

I also think Belfry is going to have a noticeable speed advantage that if they can get to the second level will translate to some big plays. I expect NewCath to hold their own against the FB Dive and the Option Pitch (NewCath's big corners should be able to fight off blocks pretty well), but when Belfry can do some of their speed stuff off tackle or can pull some linemen I think you see some big plays pop.

 

If NewCath stays patient I think they can have some success on Offense moving the chains a little and might be able to hit a couple long throws as long as they aren't challenging Devin Varney and can keep Horton off of Henschen long enough. I don't see their running game hurting Belfry until they can have success consistently passing. Keeping the ball secure is paramount.

 

I am going to say 37-17 Belfry

This is one game I'd like to see. I've admired Coach Haywood and the Pirates program from afar, and would enjoy getting a look at them first-hand. I was hoping this would be a Saturday game, but not to be.

 

I will be with our Mustangs at Trimble County on Friday night, and will have to watch the replay via NoKySports.com..

This is a rare treat for NKY football fans to see a style of football that maybe they don't see much of anymore. A class program like NewCath won't get embarrassed on its home turf, but Belfry will wear them down over four quarters, winning by 3-4 scores, IMO.

 

Picture a boxer landing body blow after body blow in the early rounds and when an opening finally presents itself upstairs... POW! A booming left hook to the chin ends the fight. I think that's how this game will play out in Belfry's favor.

I hate going against any local team but I just don't see how NCC can handle that running attack with that physical Oline for 4qts. I hope to see an upset but not likely.

As someone who's watched his team, on several occasions, wear down and wilt under Belfry's unrelenting physicality, you're exactly right. Winning 1st down and getting your defense off the field are of paramount importance if you're going to beat the Pirates.

 

They just pound away at you up the middle with the fullback to soften you up, then they spring the QB or a HB loose for a long one. It's exhausting just to watch your defense try to overcome Belfry's style and that huge OL. I can only imagine what it's like for the players trying to defend it.

This is so true and we see it every year, especially in the playoffs, against teams who aren't used to it.

 

Case in point was last year's regular season game against Knoxville Catholic. That was a VERY good football team who went on to win the 4A Tennessee championship, but Belfry rocked them. They face nothing but spread teams week in and week out. I don't think you can prepare for Belfry's style and physicality in a week if you haven't been exposed to it. The Pirates really wore them down on the line of scrimmage, kept their offense off the field, and the final score was 38-14.

 

Everything old is new again.

We may be looking at a truly unique and exceptional small school program against a very good 2A NewCath. This Belfry team may be the best non-6A team in Ky for many years. Suggest, Mama going to allow me to pass the 6hr drive to Mayfield/McCracken county classis and opt for the 1hr drive to Newport to see Belfry against a good NewCath. Hope it is close, but afraid there might be a running clock. Sure hope not!

Belfry is in a completely different class than any team in the state except probably Trinity. Probably the best team they have ever had, and that's saying something.

I do think they could compete with nearly anybody in KY, but there are a handful of teams that would not surprise me to see them lose to, and a few that Belfry would be a certain underdog against.

 

This Belfry team has the potential to be one of the better teams in the state, but they still have a ways to go to even think about that. Last year they were very overmatched against the biggest school in WV, and they have a rematch in a few weeks. In addition to that, they still have games against the TN 4A defending champs, KY 4A defending runner up, KY 1A defending champs and the KY 2A defending runner up. Let's see how they fare in those matchups before we start comparing them to the upper elite teams in KY.

This sounds way better to me!! No doubt Belfry is a powerhouse, but I don't see them being leaps and bounds above everyone in the state based off wins over TatesCreek and Harlan. I'm like u it wouldn't shock me to see them get a win over any team in the state but I don't think they are necessarily in a different class than everyone but T.
