Who do you think wins this game and why?

Tough game to pick. I will probably pick Belfry just because they are so dominate but hoping NewCath upsets them.

Belfry is in a completely different class than any team in the state except probably Trinity. Probably the best team they have ever had, and that's saying something.

A win for NewCath would epitomize the word "upset." Hopefully the bus drive takes a little out of the Pirates.

Belfry needs this game right now.

 

I will dig deeper into this one as the week goes, but what I have seen from NewCath I really like. As I said in the Campbell game thread I honestly think they are a better team right now despite losing all those Senior starters.

 

Pirates have not had anyone really even compete with their Starters or force them to actually have to make adjustments, I expect NewCath's Offense does just that.

 

The key to this matchup will be in the trenches. If NewCath wants a chance they have to find a way to neutralize this matchup. I am also excited to see how NewCath gameplans against CB Devin Varney. Varney is playing at an elite level and is looking like a true shut down corner. I am going to guess Varney will draw the task of Trent Wrobleski.. will NewCath try to attack him or just look to take their chances elsewhere?

Belfry has made it look easy the first two weeks. Maybe too easy. I agree with a previous poster that Belfry definitely needs a game that presents challenges and requires adjustments. That being said......watching them in person....and on film.....they can be scary. Have a unique combination of size, strength and speed. Defensively....they are difficult to block and they fly to the football. LB is still an issue....and this is a game that should challenge those Pirate backers....

 

Offensively....their QB, Corbett....is fast becoming a game changer. Looks extremely comfortable under center...and can run the option quite well. He does appear to keep it a little more than Haywood may like....but he's a difference maker.

 

Seen film on NCC---and they appear to be at least as good as last year.....but IMO, it won't be nearly enough.

Corbett is built to run this offense. Having a QB with his skillset adds another dimension to an already potent attack. He also has a great arm with nice accuracy. He is the man for the job and he is hard to prepare for, no doubt.

 

As to the bolded, yes he does. He makes a lot of good reads and runs the offense really well, but he does call his own number sometimes when he shouldn't. He got an earful about that very thing on the first TD on Friday night I think. LOL

First blush was NCath might give Belfry a real fight. Thorobreds tradition, 4 hour bus ride, home field advantage and then I began reading more about Coach Haywood...3 consecutive state championships...history of this program....stability of coaching staffs...national ranking...two consecutive running clocks in early second quarters with starters scoring 12 TDs in less than 30 minutes of those games...threat of scoring on every play from any part of field...experts opine this is best Belfry team ever! Wow! After NC's weak defensive performance against Camels, this game seems a major overmatch for NewCath. Hope I am wrong.
