I think if NCC can keep it from being a running clock situation it would be a good effort. This Belfry team may be in the Top 3 of the state across all classes with Trinity and BG being the other two.

I don't think we will be looking at a running clock game at all. And I certainly hope it isn't. I would like to see a game where both teams have to battle for 4 quarters.

 

If NewCath were a double tight, run oriented team, then maybe so. This 'Breds team, however, does the things that will test Belfry very well. Last year the short passing game, and patience in the pocket by Henschen was a recipe for success for NCC and I expect them to go back to that well. Belfry is still trying out personnel for ILB and OLB and they may struggle with that approach.

 

When Belfry is on offense, I don't think NCC will be able to stop them consistently. Belfry is just too talented and they have some depth. The one issue they have right now is they are playing without starting FB, Fletcher. For those who watched, Fletcher was was the MVP in the finals last season. His absence puts Wellman into the position of playing both ways at FB and ILB.

 

There have been times in the past where Belfry has come down with fumble bug. Turnovers are crippling to Belfry's style and if NCC can win the takeaway battle and catch a few breaks this could be a good game.

Noah Corbett is the player I expect to be the X-Factor.

 

Last year Corbett did not play in this match-up as he was serving a suspension. Noah has been a bit of a work in progress for Coach Haywood, (one that is still on going) but the kid is absolutely a lethal talent in Belfry's Offense. Last year Avery Browning started this game as Freshman and had some turnover issues with NewCath that allowed the Breds to hang around. Belfry also didn't show much of a passing threat which allowed NnewCath's talented LB'ers to play very aggressive.

 

Corbett has a great arm and also has ability to elude pressure to extend plays and break contain. What he does best though is run the Triple Option and he has ability to take it to the house every play with his feet. As log as Corbett can protect the football he truly make Belfry very difficult to defend.

I hope NCC can hang with Belfry but....hopefully everyone stays safe and healthy.

Well if Belfry is as good as some claim them to be, this shouldn't be close at all. So I will go with the ones who know Belfry better than I do this year and pick Belfry by double digits.

Belfry was also without their starting tailback, #3 Willis, in last years game. He and Corbett were both suspended.

 

However, if you ask Coach Haywood, he would say Belfry is not as good right now as they were at this point last season. They are trying to find the right combination defensively, whereas last season, those positions were well decided.

 

I'm not saying I agree, but that is what Coach has said in interviews.

I don't think I'll be able to make the trip. Too much going on right now. I hate it because this is one game I'd like to see.

NewCath is gonna need a heck of an effort to keep this one close to have a chance at a win in my opinion. That being said, one should never count the Thoroughbreds out.

Belfry is in a completely different class than any team in the state except probably Trinity. Probably the best team they have ever had, and that's saying something.

 

Belfry can't beat Bowling Green, Scott County, or Saint X

From what I have seen of Scott County and St. X, it would be a pretty good matchup between them and the Pirates. BG, you are probably right, but who knows. BTW, to the poster who asked about Belfry fans. They travel well and will bring a decent, good contingent up North. I would take Belfry in that one for sure.

 

Most years I think Scott Countu beats Belfry as well but not this year. This Belfry team is too good and this isn't a vintage Scott County team.

 

They already share a common opponent as well in Tate's Creek. Both blew out the Commodores but Tate's Creek was actually a bit more competitive against the Cards.

 

Bowling Green is a different story. That's one heck of a team and IMHO the clear cut #2 team in KY behind Trimity.
