August 25, 201610 yr Ummmm....Morehead is D1. (FCS Division, what used to known as 1-AA. They play at a much higher level than D3. I don't know why he left, but I doubt it had anything to do with the caliber of play. To say he was "too good" for Morehead is a stretch. Non-Scholly, Pioneer League. No playoff possibility and NOT legit FCS play. So yes, he could be "too good" to play there.
August 25, 201610 yr The young man can flatout play. Never understood the Morehead decision in the first place. Would suspect (iMO) he was disappointed in the caliber of that experience and righted the error immediately. Not to belittle D3, and especially the Morehead program, but Brett Slusher is a special talent. Morehead isn't D3, it's actually DI Football.
August 25, 201610 yr Morehead is in fact FCS formerly known as DIAA. Same as EKU. They simply play in a non-scholorship football conference. All the teams in the conference are on a level playing field. I believe none of the schools want to make the investment to offer full scholorships for football players...rather stick with academic funding. Still a quality program.

The conference they play in does get an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs. They open their season with a top 20 FCS team, James Madison. Non Scholly does not mean they are not "legit". Would you call Ivy League football not legit?? Legit conference, legit schedule.....sorry, but Morehead plays legit football. There are many, many more football players that aren't good enough to play at Morehead, than the other way around.

Measurables? Maybe an inch or two too short and a few pounds too light. Didn't hit the camp circuit because he played baseball every summer with a very high-level team. There could be any number of reasons.
August 25, 201610 yr Correct Hellbird. Morehead quit offering scholarships in the mid-90's when I was attending there when they dropped from the OVC in football. Still wish they would make the move back up the ladder & rejoin.
August 25, 201610 yr I'm sorry. I love Morehead State in every way but I really would like to see them playing scholarship football in the OVC again at some point.
August 25, 201610 yr Morehead State is a fine program and Brett was thankful for the opportunity to play there but it was not as good of a fit as he had thought. Brett's personal dream was to play for a big program and work hard to earn a scholarship, he realized this dream was still attainable and is going for it.
August 25, 201610 yr My guess is that he want to give it a year to see if he is good enough to play with the big boys. Over the years I have seen some small schools players who try and play above their skill set. Hope he doesn't follow suit!

Do you knock the kid for not attempting to honor his word/signature on his National Letter of Intent or do you chalk it up to a change of heart on his part and bless it because he is just a kid? Also, if he wasn't going to play at UK right out of high school what is the thought process that goes into thinking that he will play there now? Does UK take walk-ons when the season is starting in a week and a half or is he going to have to sit out the year and if so why wouldn't he just play for a year at Morehead and then transfer and sit out next year?
