How did Morehead treat this kid wrong?

I look at it this way, he probably listened to well-meaning folks, weighed his options and made what he thought was the right decision at the time. However, his heart was somewhere else. There are times when all are telling you to use your head, but you long for something else. I give the young man credit for following his heart and if it doesn’t work out the way he wants, at least he’ll not have any regrets and always wonder “what if”.

So I am just playing a little Devil's Advocate here. THESE ARE JUST QUESTIONS NOT STATEMENTS!!!! Do you knock the kid for not attempting to honor his word/signature on his National Letter of Intent or do you chalk it up to a change of heart on his part and bless it because he is just a kid? Also, if he wasn't going to play at UK right out of high school what is the thought process that goes into thinking that he will play there now? Does UK take walk-ons when the season is starting in a week and a half or is he going to have to sit out the year and if so why wouldn't he just play for a year at Morehead and then transfer and sit out next year?

 

I'm not going to knock the kid. Sometimes you know right away you made a bad choice. Nothing against the school but it wasn't right for him. Why stay? He wasn't on scholarship. He didn't tie up a scholarship that another kid could have received.

 

Morehead is not for everyone. It's remote which can be a shock to kids from NKY/Cincinnati.

 

He seems like the kind of kid that can eventually get on the field at UK in some capacity. Heck, he may even earn a scholly some day. Ask Cole Mosier.

I only saw him play twice but it sure was a treat. Frankly I was quite shocked when he went to Morehead. I had been hoping he'd end up at WKU.

 

If anyone can stick as a walk on it would be him. I'm certainly rooting for him.

Correct me....wasn't he an exceptional baseball, football and track athlete? Heard he was also an exceptional (like in off the charts) student and President of his class. Tremendous hands and good speed. Suspect he will see real time on the field next year. I would commend the young man for making the hard decision.

 

All correct. Brett Slusher is as good as it gets as a young man on and off the field.

 

This story tells who he is as an athlete. He ran track for the first time this year. He had always played baseball but decided to also run track this past spring and was able to work it out with the coaches to do that. In one of his first meets, he won the indoor state championship in the 60 yard dash. Soon after he had a health issue that caused him to miss a few weeks in both sports. Once he was healthy, in his first at bat back in baseball he hits a home run. He is a great athlete.

 

He also is a great student, who I heard earned over a 30 on his ACT. He is extremely polite, personable and mature. If he never plays in a game at UK and sticks with the program, the UK football team will be much better just by having him and his high character there. Best wishes that Brett stays healthy and gets the opportunity to achieve his goals.

Mosier had what Brett doesn't......size. If Brett had better measurables, he wouldn't have had to start at MSU to begin with.

Question for those in the know. Did he ever actually attend class at Morehead? Did he get to Kentucky on time for the first day of classes and was he able to take courses that were beneficial to his education with being a late registrant. Is he a walk-on or a PWO? Being the latter would certainly help with the housing situation.

Usually a PWO is invited to summer camp with the team. Walk on's generally don't get to start until the first day of school.

Was Slusher that good that everybody knows who he is and where he's from by just his last name?

I immediately thought Bell County. Slusher is a common name in that county.
