Cooper over the last 5 years has rarely allowed a team to score even 20 points in a game. So I think we will see their defense be much better this game.

 

These are two great programs, and i like NCCs chance at a state title this year in 2A, but I think Cooper wins comfortably by a few scores like they have the last few years.

Ha ha this is one of my favorite things to read every year. Cooper watering down the field is absolutely hilarious to me!

In all seriousness the field will likely be wet from the predicted rains on Thursday and that and regular old Home Field advantage would seem to make this one go the way of Cooper.

 

Both teams will play about the same number of two-way players which won't hurt Cooper this week but will later down the line in 6A. I don't think this will be all that high scoring at least not in the 40s. I would go Cooper by 14 which would be a decent showing for both teams.

Me too. Just thought that I would get it started for the first home game.

I was able to watch both teams this past weekend and I give a big advantage to Cooper. Newcath is much better than they were a year ago but Cooper was doing a nice job on defense until Highlands started to wear them down by running so many offensive plays in such a short amount of time. Cooper was tire and it showed in final 3 qtrs. Newcath does not run the same style of offense, that Highlands runs. The pace of the game will be slowed down and Coopers size will wear down the Breds. I'm not real sure what Newcath has as far as pass defense. Scott only threw a passes and connected on a big one in the second half, but I think it came against the second team. I think Newcath is much better than they were a year ago, but I think Cooper has way too many weapons. #39 is stud for Cooper so taking Hendrix out of the mix, sounds like a good plan but #39 holds his own. If Jackson is healthy for Cooper, it might be a long night for the Breds. I'm saying Cooper 42, Newcath 21.

Wouldn't surprise me to see NCC try and go no huddle but I do not know how it will help them with all they have also going both ways? Seems a little counter productive

Likewise, It wouldn't suprise me to see Cooper employ the no-huddle sometime as well, seeing as they saw the advantages of it first hand......

In the immortal words of Aaron Rodgers....R-E-L-A-X. The Jags knew coming into the season that they were going to be young and there would be a lot of new faces on the field with not a lot of depth.

 

I don't see all the doom and gloom that so many are assuming. Sure, the loss last week stung but I do believe it was to one of the best teams in the State in HHS let's not forget and take away two of the 3 huge turnovers and the game might have gone a different way but I want to be clear and give all the credit to the team that found a way to win THAT game.

Cooper is into its 9th season and continues to improve. While history means nothing, if you remove the 2013 season, what this somewhat young program has accomplished is more than respectable since the 2011 season.

Winning or tying the district 4 of the past 5 years, 2 regional titles, a State runner-up appearance, and a 1pt loss in the quarterfinals in their 1st "real" year in 6A when many on this site said they would get murdered playing with the "big boys".

Yes, loosing last week and giving up 52 surely was not the outcome the Jags wanted but IMO there is no staff in NKY that gets more out of less than Cooper.

So I'll say lets just R-E-L-A-X and see where this team is come October/November.

Sorry ... the new program stuff is long gone and done for Cooper. After 4, maybe 5 years at the absolute most, the new program stuff is not an explanation for anything. Cooper's success or lack of success today has zero to do with them starting a new program 9 year ago.

I didn't read it that way at all, merely that he was giving them a shout out for how successful they've been in their short existence. No arguing that.

 

However, I do think that it takes longer than 9 years to really build an annual contender these days. Just getting a feeder program up and running and having the younger grades get pumped up about growing up and joining the team takes time. Cooper seems to be ahead of the curve.

I may have missed something but I don't see anywhere in the post you are referencing where he blames the play on the field for being a new program. He simply points out that the program has had a substantial amount of success in the limited years it has been around to judge.

 

The point is that the Cooper coaches have done a good job taking what they have and making it competitive regardless of season. This season should be similar and come October should be a fun team to watch.
