frankdracman23 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 ....take students from your school that have never played that sport and beat the current high school team? We all hear about the "talent walking the halls" at a given school. So which sport would be the most difficult to take a group of students from a school and beat the current high school team? Which would be the easiest? Here are the rules: Boys or Girls KHSAA sports are included but would still be gender specific. You can select any students who have not played the sport at the high school level. You have 6 weeks of practice. For example: Could you select a group of girls at County High and after 6 weeks of practice beat the current golf team at County High? Which sport would this task be the most difficult in? Which would it be the easiest in?
Big Slick Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 With the exception of linemen I'd say it's football at a few places.
Jumper_Dad Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I think football would be the hardest to take kids that have never played and beat the current high school team...but in reality I don't think it could be done on any sport. Basketball is a possibility as many school especially bigger schools have a lot of playground talent that never even goes out for the team due to grades, home support or other issues. Track would be the easiest, I always feel there are some crazy athletic kids that just no interest in sports. They could be competitive in various track events much easier than any of the team sports.
Cats3x Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Football and baseball. Almost impossible, especially last year for us.
rjs4470 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Definitely baseball. No way you could train 9 kids who've never played or haven't played in a while in 6 weeks and beat a high school team...I don't care how athletic they are. Football would be almost impossible too. You might find a kid maybe a handful, that could be contributors on a high school team. But you aren't finding 11 guys (realistically you'd need more) that could do anything against a high school team. Heck, many schools can't give their starters a decent look with the scout team, and the scout team is out there daily and most have been playing a while. Really I don't think you could do it any major sport. I do think there is a sport where if you got the right athletes you could give the high school team a run, and that's wrestling. The very good and elite wrestlers aren't losing to a newbie, but give me a tough, athletic, strong kid and i could coach him up to be an average wrestler pretty quickly. Again, he won't be a state champ or any where close, but I guarantee I could get him winning matches.
Jim Schue Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I'll say girls golf since most HS teams struggle to get enough live bodies to come out for the sport.

My guess on easiest would've been track because it's mostly straight athleticism but wrestling can be taught.

John Anthony Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Football is mostly physical, a 70+ mph baseball pitch to a beginner is very challenging.
Lawnboy13 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Softball without question......the pitching would be just AWFUL, it would be Walk-Fest.
Jim Schue Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Football is mostly physical, a 70+ mph baseball pitch to a beginner is very challenging. Inclined to agree on both accounts here. Baseball for boys and softball for girls. I "played up" as a 7-year-old with an August birthday in Little League when I was a kid, facing off against kids several years older than me. Got plunked in the ribs my first AB. Took me two more years before I got over the fear and learned how to be a great hitter. Six weeks to cobble a baseball or softball team together, to attempt to beat experienced kids? No chance. Softball without question......the pitching would be just AWFUL, it would be Walk-Fest.
footmaster Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Football is mostly physical, a 70+ mph baseball pitch to a beginner is very challenging. Totally agree... I've seen a lot of great football players that were embarrassing to watch on the baseball field... On the flip side, never have I seen a great baseball player that couldn't play at least one position in football respectably.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Give me soccer. Haters can hate but no way in hell a group of random kids that have never played organized soccer could beat a decent/good HS team. At least with most other sports they have some experience at the playground, backyard and pool (volleyball). You never see any kind of pick up soccer game in our communities.
