PurplePride92 Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 And it is a good one. :lol2: :lol2: "The committee decided that the overall No. 1 seed would be provided the opportunity for institutional preference in its geographic assignment to first- and second-round and regional sites. Preferences would be communicated by teams in contention for the overall No. 1 seed far in advance of Selection Sunday in a process to be determined." MJAlltheWay24 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Seems like they usually put the #1 overall seed in the closest location anyway, so doesn't really seem like much will change. That is unless a coach decides to randomly pick the West because they think it'll be easier.
Voice of Reason Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 The opportunity to pick the second round site seems to me like where the most benefit will be. Also, it says picking geographic site. I don't think the coach will know which opponents are in his region. He is just picking where he wants to play.

maysvilleky Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Duke and UNC already don't leave the State of NC for their first 2 rounds. So it wouldn't benefit them. It may however prevent the committee from sending UK to a location that's actually farther away like it did a few years ago.

Kentucky gets the #1 seed (Louisville isn't an option) and they choose the Asheville/Raleigh, NC location. Essentially ensuring that Duke/UNC has to play out of state in the first round. Interesting thought.
LRCW Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 What if UNC is the overall #1 seed, and The Dean Dome is a regional site?
spindoc Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 What if UNC is the overall #1 seed, and The Dean Dome is a regional site? They'll wear white?
bugatti Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 What if UNC is the overall #1 seed, and The Dean Dome is a regional site? They never use the Dean Dome, do they?
LRCW Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 They never use the Dean Dome, do they? Wasn't really my point. My question was if this new rule would supersede the rule that you can't play a tournament game on your home court.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 They never use the Dean Dome, do they? He wanted to use UL and the Yum Center, but he knows that saying Louisville is the #1 seed is an unrealistic hypothetical lol jk.
The Professor Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I wish they had this in place in 2003 when they sent overall number 1 seed Kentucky to play in the back yards of Wisconsin and Marquette.
