I see this as people that can think for themselves. Unlike the Dem convention where everyone will goose step the party line.

And to be fair, I do not disagree with Cruz's "vote your conscience" theme. Heck, that's what I say every time someone who pooh-poohs a third-party vote. I just think that it wasn't what Mr. Trump needed out of a loooonnnnngggg keynote speech.

 

And would it have garnered nearly the attention it did had not the New York delegation started all the noise? My guess is no.

As @LIPTON BASH will remind me I was not a fan of the senator and thought he would NEVER last as long as he did. I was wrong.

 

I must admit I have new found respect for him for a)standing up for the party that he thinks is off the rails and b)NOT endorsing the guy who linked his father to JFK's assassination and said some rough things about his wife. Kudos.

Are you speaking about Trump? Cruz does what he says. He sticks to his principles. When his fellow Republicans go against his principles, Ted opposes them too. They don't like it. They want compromisers so they can get their pet projects done, meanwhile, the country continues to rack up debt and turns from conservative principles. Ted doesn't go along with the compromise. That is why he is not liked. Christie said Cruz was selfish. What he means is that Cruz is true to his principles and that means he can't pretend to be behind someone like Trump.

 

Cruz's political future will soon be sharing space with the Dodo bird and the Woolly Mammoth.

 

That may be but he can still look himself in the mirror and know he is true to his principles and the principles his constituents voted him into office to support. Wait for the Trump administration and then see how many of those who supported Trump can still look themselves in the mirror and be proud of their choice of candidate.

 

Ted Cruz's entire career in the senate has been stepping on toes and infuriating the members of his own party almost as much as Democrats. We can't possibly be surprised by this.

 

See above where I talk about Cruz's refusal to compromise his conservative principles even when its his own party who asks him to do so. That kind of principled politics is not appreciated inside the beltway. It is appreciated by the people who elected him to do that very thing.

That's a good question. And i would ask Cruz, "Why didn't you just take a pass on speaking?" I think it would have been better for him just to refuse to do so. In the end, he did not say, "I do NOT support Trump for President." He just didn't explicitly say, "I support Trump and I want you to vote for him too." He just said what he could in good conscience say, "Vote your conscience up and down the ticket." Of course, the implication is he supports the Republican party over any Democrat, but he doesn't want to support Trump. He should have just stayed home.

 

His political career. He was basically booed off. Read the rest on CNN. After tonight I would not vote for him for dog catcher. These candidates all pledged to support whoever won the nomination. The ones who have not are liars. The deserve nothing. And I would say the same about Trump if the roles were reversed.

He isn't on Trump's side now. How is that being a "liar"? He said he would support the eventual Republican nominee. Trump has made that impossible for him to do so. He cannot be true to his principles and support Trump. He chose to remain true to his convictions and that means, even though he made a general statement about supporting his party, he cannot explicitly say that he wants you to vote for Trump.

First: Politics is not for the faint of heart of thin of skin. Things are said during election / selection lead ups that are brutal individually. If you wear your personal feelings on your sleeve, you won't make it.

 

Second: Cruz signed his name, along with a number of others, to include Trump, that said he would support the nominee, even if it wasn't him. By doing what he did, he looks weak and self serving.

 

Third: Yes, I would keep my word, because it's stronger than election / selection rhetoric.

 

Cruz wanted / wants to be the leader of the free world. If he can't take a few shots to the body and defend himself against a politician within the US, I don't want him up against some of the baddest dudes in the world.

 

Overall weak performance by Cruz, I expected better out of him. I think he may have sealed the deal for himself. Huge gamble on his part.

I am kind of disgusted with all the individuals involved. On the other hand, I really like the Republican Party platform. I think it is really solid for the types of things that I believe in. I was talking with my wife last night about if it were possible to vote for the platform instead of the individual. Obviously, not. I have genuine concern that many of the elements of the platform that are most important to me will be ignored by Trump if he wins.

Cruz is not liked because he is self serving and he proved it, once again last night.

 

His job last night wasn't to do anything except make sure that the nominee was shown full support. He abused an extremely privileged position and that shows his true colors.

 

If he decided to not keep his word, he should have issued a retraction to the agreement that he signed his name to....he didn't.
