June 28, 201610 yr I'm growing beets in the garden this year! Going to pickle them for my pregnant niece. I'm not a fan of pickled anything, except for beets. Love em. My grandmother would make Harvard beets every summer. Oh My Lord they were good. Especially good
June 29, 201610 yr This is tough because tomatoes and avocados - staples for me - are both considered fruit. But when I think of fruit I'm thinking peaches or bananas. I was going to say zucchini for vegetables, but Wikipedia now tells me this is also a fruit. Now I'm confused. Do I even eat vegetables? Onions? Onions are too important for cooking, but I never eat them by themselves. Corn? Don't tell me this is a fruit too... I am going to lump onions and all peppers into a group called "seasonings". Corn will go into "starches". Peas, green beans, limas and the like will go into the "legumes". I'm putting spinach and lettuces into the "grass" category. Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and cabbages are going into the "landscape alternatives". Squash, zucchini, eggplant et al are now gourds. Tomatos are pre-juice Carrots, celery and asparagus are small animal fodder. I think I'm whittling away the "vegetable" category. Need to start on the fruits.
