Saint X and Trinity undoubtadly have a vast army of skilled and experienced frosh that will decimate their opponents.

Ryle has 75+ Freshmen this year. I had expected many to quit by now but they are sticking with it. No one is playing both ways. I think they will be pretty good. Find out Weds when they play Cov Cath.

With that many kids, you have to make two teams. Either go with an A team and a B team, or simply split the squad. Either way gets a bunch of the kids on the field and keeps them playing for another year.

He's from the Raiders and his dad played for Newport in the early 80's ! Should be avery good player for SK in years to come !:thumb:

That would be David Simpson I am thinking. He was a great athlete at Newport and his son should follow in his footsteps.

North Laurel has their biggest group of freshmen ever (33 if the roster in the paper is correct). Their biggest before was in the 20's. The improved middle school program is sending more and more kids to the high school and this is going to pay future dividends.

Looking forward to this Thursday when the freshman begin their season. With little or no freshman scrimmages, I can't wait to see what the teams in the area are bringing to the table.:thumb:

I heard they are supposed to be building a new high school in Boone County within the next year or so.....

My understanding is Camp Ernst High School opens in 2008. It is supposed to draw more kids from Conner than Boone or Ryle but will effect all three.

CovCath has 50 kids (or thereabouts) on it's freshman team, but I have no idea where the talent level is at this point.

That is ridiculous......75 kids...ever hear of the word cut? Send a few down the road to BC.. they obviously need some help these days.

There will be a many disapointed parents who have to sit through many games and not see little johnny play much.

If the big schools ever hope to compete with the St. X/Trinity's then they better get a ton of kids out. I think it is a compliment to the direction of the program to have that much interest.

X doesn't cut in football....Its a good idea....who's to say that your freshman 3rd stringer won't hit a growth spurt and become your varsity stud?...better to have some skill and knowledge of the team's system in him .....

Also football is way more than just a sport...there are many good hard life lessons that go with it....and playing time earned is a great start!

True, I have seen this happen...I will give you that. I will also agree with your comment on a life lesson learned. Many times I have seen kids who lack talent but make up for it with tremendous heart. The odds were against them and their backs were against the wall and they stuck it out for 4 years. There is definitely something to be said about that.

Still think 75 players is a logistical nightmare for a coach and frustrating for a parent who wants to see their son on the field having fun during games, not just practices.

It sure is...but the benefits outweigh the negatives...

Correct. Newport class of 81. Went to EKU for a year or two. Helluva athlete.

Don't believe everything you hear . . . . . .

Regarding the new school or where it will pull from?
