May 24, 201610 yr I believe I'm a female , Does that make me a liar if I have penis and claim I'm a female ? Or just does me really believing it enough to say I'm telling the truth ? Or is there a my truth and your truth ? It matters in this discussion because you seem to hint around that Obama believing it some how excuses the falsehood of the statement . I'm not sure I understand your point. So if I were to tell you something that I really believed in, something that based on my information, research, etc, I expected a particular result. And it turns out I was wrong. Then by what you posted above, I'm now a liar?? I've been in positions of leadership and have made choices that turned out to be wrong or different than what I expected. In my opinion, that just makes me wrong, not a liar. Again, I'm not writing the ACA off as a failure. There is a lot of good in the law. But I do agree it needs to be better. And I do wish Obama would stand up and say the same thing. But I also give him credit for taking on the problem. Because I don't think anyone should be in fear of being bankrupted by paying for healthcare, or have to not seek treatment or obtain drugs because they can't afford it.
May 24, 201610 yr When I was negotiating our company's healthcare package - WAY before the ACA, the typical annual increase in premium (often with a reduction in benefits) was in the ten percent area. Edited May 24, 201610 yr by mcpapa
May 24, 201610 yr Again, I'll ask. Single payer? I'll be honest...I don't know. Lots of pros, lots of cons to a single payer system. I'm not a fan of the government completely controlling healthcare and hate even more our doctors becoming virtual government employees (even if they would be technically private providers whose work gets paid for by the government, although in essence they work for insurance companies now) I think a lot of our brilliant doctors to be would end up doing something else. But I also hate people not being able to receive healthcare or the drugs they need. It's got to be a blend of the two systems. But I'm not smart enough to figure out how to make that work.

A model similar to how medicare works would be the way to do it IMO. That or go back to underwriting plans and subsidized the high risk pools.

I basically now have major medical but I'm paying the same premiums.
May 29, 201610 yr Cost more .... if you can get it. Obamacare nonprofit co-op InHealth under Ohio Insurance Department control, to be shut down - Columbus - Columbus Business First Ohio is the latest state to lose its nonprofit co-op health insurer created under an Affordable Care Act after a Franklin County judge on Thursday appointed the Ohio Department of Insurance as receiver of InHealth Mutual to take control and liquidate the company. Policies are still in effect as of now for its 21,800 members, mostly with individual coverage, but the state said they likely have 60 days to choose another plan on the federal Health Insurance Marketplace or risk losing federal subsidies.

I would argue the problem with your point is the architect of Obamacare has turned out to be a fraud.
May 30, 201610 yr I'm starting to think that moving a universal single payer system is the way to go through increased taxes to the public to pay for it. That's unpopular for sure but it's about the only way to get some of this under control by spreading the cost around. Just my 2 cents.

Who are you going to be spreading it too? 50% dont pay any taxes as is, your only going to be hurting the ones paying for it now anyways.
May 30, 201610 yr I know that a few years ago I had an MRI and I paid nothing that I can recall. Last week my doctor sent me to an orthopedic doctor in Winchester to examine my lower back and he ordered an MRI for me. They called me the following day and said my insurance had approved the MRI. I asked the doctor's office what my out of pocket cost would be and they said I would need to call the insurance company and asked them. I was told by the insurance receptionist that I would have to cover up to $1,000. So, I called back the orthopedic office and told them what they said and that I wasn't forking over $1000 unless my condition becomes emergency status. Just ain't gonna do it. I don't know if Obama Care is the reason for my deductible, or co-pay or whatever it's called, going from paying nothing, or very little, to $1000, but if it is I darn sure don't like it. Yes, Obama Care has resulted in more people with coverage, but I'm thinking it's at the expense of middle class retired people, or other workers. It's like robbing Peter to pay Paul.
May 30, 201610 yr Having a procedure done tomorrow, I can either a)let my insurance pay for it and it would cost me $1000 for the deductible or b)just pay the doctor without going thru insurance company and it would be $650.
May 30, 201610 yr Author And that's the trouble with Ins these days . Its not really insurance . Be best to buy stock in those providing the coverage .
