The Obama Thread

Agree with a lot but I think Trump cares more for America than Obama does.

From my vantage point, Trump comes across as caring mostly about Trump. And Hillary comes across as mostly caring about Hillary.

I have not really felt that way about Obama or GWB before him.

Depending on who you ask, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama are considered two of the worst presidents in history, and coincidentally they are the two that stand out in my mind as being the most decent, down to earth, all inclusive and understanding presidents that that I've witnessed in my lifetime.

If I had to pick just two to sit down to a cordial meal with it would be those two for sure. I don't buy the poor ratings that they've received because those giving it to them are typically not the type of people that I have a ton of respect for in the first place.

Y'know...those who long for "the good old days" of a white world with white privilege. It would appear that those types have never been too comfortable with sharing this nation and consider the "best of times" as being when they felt that it belonged to them and was in their control. They don't seem to be too happy with watching it slip from their grip giving way to a more all inclusive nation on a grander level of acceptance.

It amazes me how many people I hear say "Obama hates America" and wants racism to persist.. I get you don't agree with him on things. But do you really believe he hates this country and wants to destroy it?? Talk about hyperbole. That just makes zero sense.

This is where I'm trying to come from. I might think Obama is crippling America (I do), but not because he hates America.

Why is he the worst president ever? What has he done that has been so incredibly awful?

I think a lot of times, a presidents accomplishments or follies are blown extremely out of proportion, either positively or negatively. I think this applies to Obama, and pretty much every other president. That being said, and I wouldn't say that he is the worst president, but there are a few issues that stick out as clear "mishaps."

In my opinion, which is nothing more than an opinion, I think that President Obama has put the United States in a worse position to negotiate and influence the international community than before. This has nothing to do with Iraq, so lets just rule out the Bush defense before it gets started. My opinion is based on his policy in Iran, which was appeasement, his neglect in handling an ever strengthening Russia and to a lesser extent China and the issues evolving in the South China Sea.

I am not going to go in depth as to why each of these issues, in my opinion, has weakened the United States role in the international community, because I could honestly write a book about each (wrote a 30 page thesis on Iran), but I will briefly hit on the general idea behind each:

Iran- The policy regarding the Iranian Nuclear Program is a policy that essentially is a reward first, results second type of policy. Before any desired results are shown, the policy grants sanction relief. It enables Iranian frozen assets to become thawed, enabling an inflow of government revenue. It also relieves them of any sort of "debt" or willingness to comply with our, as well as other actors, demands.

Russia- Essentially, Russia has been flexing on us for the past few years and we have done nothing about it.

South China Sea- Similar to Russia flexing on us, China was been developing their islands in the South China Sea, were we have numerous military bases set up as protection for other countries, mainly Japan, and significant shipping routes. China has been attempting to claim sovereignty over the area, and increase their military presence, in an effort to push the US and our allies out of the region. Up until yesterday, the US had largely avoided the issue to my knowledge. The lifting of the weapons ban on Vietnam may have been a move to counter China's advances, but its effectiveness have yet to be seen. However, the little attention paid to this issue is concerning to say the least.

Essentially, my major concerns/ faults with President Obama reside in the realm of international influence, and the diminished role the United States has. It seems like no one cares about us anymore, unless of course they want us to come in and save them from a genocide, provide food during a hunger crisis or accept their immigrants. When it comes to a time where we say, "stop doing this," or "you need to do this in order for us to help you," it seems like most countries just shrug us off.

He is not the worst president ever.

He does not have low character, not for a politician anyway. :D Unlike our two leading candidates I can believe most of what he says, even if I might not like it. I'd probably enjoy having a beer with him.

He's not the great divider, he's done nothing to add or subtract to the divide that we've had for years. Not much he could do in this regard because if you make some segment happy, another segment will be unhappy. No one is going to improve that situation.

Don't think there's much he could do in the last 7 months to change my view of him. I've disagreed with much he's done and agreed with some. I do think he made a decent enough nomination for the SC so I liked that considering the circumstances.

An uncomfortable truth.

Any criticism of Obama w/out criticism of the right wing Republicans is misplaced. The great failing of his time in office has been the inability of grown men to compromise. This is a 2 part issue. The ObamaCare fiasco is a perfect example. Obama has the right idea in that medical care should be affordable for everyone. However, his inability to work with Republicans, and their lack of willingness to work with him has created a health care system even more expensive for the self-employed than it was before he started this whole thing.

Agree with pretty much everything here.

A white world. Do you realize how many whites voted for him?

Sure I do, and believe it or not there is such a thing as a progressive open minded white person, and thankfully they are no longer a rarity even while unfortunately there are still a significant number of those lagging in this department.

Good lord.

Sure I do, and believe it or not there is such a thing as a progressive open minded white person, and thankfully they are no longer a rarity even while unfortunately there are still a significant number of those lagging in this department.

Well maybe if more were open minded and not just vote for reasons.

Blacks voted for Obama because he was black, nothing to do with principles or economy.

Latinos voted Obama just because he favors letting everyone in America and he was giving out free meal tickets along with housing, medical and legal lawyers for them. Nothing to do with anything but that.

Also Obama is the least TRANSPARENT POTUS ever.

Good lord.

Yeah, Obama as much as he bashes America, not to mention his wife finally being proud of America.

He has had missteps in regards to race and/or police. See the Boston example with the professor. Sometimes pausing is a good thing.

However, when you're black and you have a platform AND raise issues with regards to race you are instantly labeled a "divider" which is the 2000s word for "instigator" that was used in the 60s. As a country , while we know it's there, we do NOT want to HEAR about our race problems especially from some black dude. By today's definition, MLK was a divider.

He's taken arrows (we see it here) for raising valid issues regarding race. My guess is he'll take them in exchange for not just dialogue and awareness but , more importantly, action.

Lastly, it's laughable and , frankly, ignorant to say he hates America.

Yeah, Obama as much as he bashes America, not to mention his wife finally being proud of America.

Can you give me rock solid examples of "bashing America?"

Could you use ANY MORE gross generalizations? Latinos wanted free meal tickets?

If anyone wants to see who Trump is playing to.....
