Better overall player?

 

Saw this debate on Twitter today.

I have a problem with this because of Bonds' chemical enhancement. In my opinion it cannot be a fair comparison.

Bonds, not even a real debate on it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, depends on what you like more.

 

Head to head before Barry's "Growth Spurt" in the back half of his career I'd take Jr easily. Even though Bonds was great when he was young, IMO he wasn't Jr level great then.

Agreed... And the juiced Bond years will likely even keep him out of the Hall of Fame

Bonds has the edge with the bat, but not by much and his steroid years diminishes his accomplishments in my opinion. Griffey, Jr has the edge with the glove. In a close decision I voted Griffey, Jr.

Griffey's injuries kept him from being the all time HR leader. End of story. Overall, it's not even close.

I believe Bonds played in 300 more games than Griffey did.... thanks to his steroids and Jr's injuries....

7 MVPs for Bonds, 1 for Jr. Other factors go into that, but I don't follow all the logic that it is "easily" Jr. if Bonds had stayed off the juice. 7 MVPs is impressive, I don't care who you are or what you did to your body. Take away '01-'04 and Bonds still has the most all time.

 

That '01-'04 stretch is still the most captivating and dominating stretches of sports in my lifetime.
