Stats for both through the season in which they turned 35

Jr in 2125 games Hit .296, 2304Hits, 536HR, 1525 RBI, .561SLG

Bonds in 2143 games Hit .289, 2157Hits, 494HR, 1405RBI, .567SLG

These stats are all that's needed. That should have been where their competitiveness ended but artificial enhancement aided Bonds and tainted the memory of many.

Please. He didn't do anything that wasn't being done for baseball's entire existence.

We will never know Bonds' actual stats. He was good enough to not use.

"Artificial enhancement" has aided players since the creation of the sport. Why should it be held against someone like Bonds and not others?

Please. He didn't do anything that wasn't being done for baseball's entire existence.

And your point is?

My point is we should hold it against everyone caught doing it.

So maybe we should put it this way. It really is a shame that Barry Bonds was so ignorant that he got caught doing steroids and ruined his chances of being a first-ballot hall-of-famer.

And your point is?

Why do we hold it against Bonds and players from his era, and not others that came long before them? The "morality policing" that goes on in baseball is a joke.

Because they got caught.

They took it to an extreme and made a mockery of the game. Then they all lied about it and many continue to lie about it.

To me the most despicable player in baseball is Ryan Braun.

Those that make a mockery of the game are those who turn a blind eye to the guys from past generations who cheated and used enhancements and are held on a pedestal while they cry and whine about those of the steroid error tainting the game.

I think what many ignore is that while Bonds went up in HRs later in his career, where he spiked most was with his batting percentage. That more than anything went through the roof (sans his 73 HR season). The Aaron HR record fell because he hung around until he broke it. He may have still been in the 500-550 area of HRs otherwise.

Yeah Bonds hit .325 over the last 7 years of his career after only hitting over .325 once in his career up to that point. Averaged 52 HR per 162 games in those last 7 years after averaging 38 per 162 games in the first 15 seasons.

You talking about guys using speed or other PED users?

I'm talking about guys who have been using "performance enhancers" for decades upon decades. Cooperstown is full of them.

Personally, I don't turn a blind eye on anyone who cheats. If I see evidence that somebody cheated, they are a cheater. Gaylord Perry was a cheater. I wish he wasn't in the Hall of Fame. the fact that he is in the Hall of Fame does not make me say that we should let Barry Bonds in also

Some think he might have, which is why his body broke down so fast.

Then he did them wrong. He broke down b/c he allowed himself to get fat and out of shape after the first couple of unfortunate injuries. That knee injury on the 3rd base line did him in.

Or he got too big and stopped taking them. Aka Tiger Woods.

Griffey's injuries did not cost him the home run record. As was mentioned, Bonds played in a little over 300 more games than JR. That's a little over 2 seasons. Even if Griffey hit 50 home runs in those "seasons", he'd still be over 30 home runs short of Bond. Bonds walked 1200 more times than Griffey....that's an absurd number of walks. If you factor in Bonds speed, and his ability to get on base because of walks, Bonds was the better offensive player

Defensively it's much closer than many think. Griffey had more range (in his prime), but never was know for his arm. Bonds had more assists in less chances, and won a bunch of gold gloves, although not as many as Griffey. And both were below average fielders the last 7 or 8 years of their career.

Bonds was the better all around player. Griffey was the better all around person.
