May 5, 201610 yr The IRS will never call period. The only contact you will ever get from then when you are in trouble will be via mail. My pharmacy manager got a call two days ago saying he was being sued by the IRS. Told me he had a bit of fun with them before hanging up on them.
May 5, 201610 yr If you fall for a scam like that, well.... Scams like this prey on people's fears. And let's face it, people are scared of the IRS and getting thrown in jail. Lots of smart people get taken by cons all the time. It's easy to say these aren't smart, or that "they should have known better". Scammers are great manipulators that play off emotions...if they hit the right emotion at the right time, with the right story, we all can be vulnerable to getting conned.
May 5, 201610 yr Are these all land lines calls you guys are getting? Call came to my cell. From Terre Haute, In. 812-201-8218. My social security number is 403-21-5643. Could you call them back for me and see how much I owe them? The call back number was different than where they called from. Wish I would have written it down.
May 5, 201610 yr These calls are getting out of hand. Had 11 messages today from different phone numbers with a recording from the IRS. Yesterday, had over 20 according to the wife.

A lot of these phone banks are automated and after a human answers they transfer the call to a human on their end causing a delay in the person wishing you a good day.

These callers are getting better at their jobs. Many now come from "local" numbers. Used to be if I got a call from another area code, I'd let it go to voicemail. Now many of these show up as local on my caller ID, and I'm more likely to answer them.
May 8, 201610 yr I haven'had any IRS calls yet (maybe that scam hasn't reached southeastern Kentucky yet) but I've had several "free Carribean cruise trips" in the past few weeks. Starts out as an automated voice and I always hang up right after the words "can you hear me okay?" I've also had some "can cut your credit debt payment in half" calls. A few years ago I was getting a bunch of calls from the Fraternity of Police Officers asking why I hadn't sent in my $100 pledge. These were coming from a Kentucky Police type of number that popped up on the ID. When I would tell them I had never made such a pledge they'd always get agitated and tell me they really relied on these pledges being honored. So I would tell them again that I'd never made a pledge, they must be mistaken. The caller would then give me the date and time that I made the pledge and go on and on until I would finally hang up. But they would call back again the next day. After about a month of that aggravation the calls finally stopped.
May 9, 201610 yr I've had the Caribbean and the credit card one. I enjoy the phone calls from them because they usually end up in me getting cursed. Each time I've called the numbers back, I get the "the number you are calling is disconnected" message each time.
May 9, 201610 yr Are people really so gullible that they would believe a gift card payoff in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart would satisfy any type of warrant or lien or tax problem?! If you fall for crap like this, you deserve to get ripped off.
