Featured Replies

So all of these remarks took place outside of school? If thats the case why is the school involved at all?

Listen to what I am saying. The fact that they wouldn't release the transcripts to the family after they removed their kid from LexCath is what bothers me and makes me say it is personal. They knew about this issue before the story broke and still wouldn't release the transcript. To me, that's a problem that goes beyond procedural.

It's contractual...the family agreed to send the kid to a school you have to pay money to attend...they didn't pay, end of story.

Our concept of church mission differs a little.

Is this kid is a child of parent actively involved in the parish and a part of the church? In that case then you might be correct. If the child's family is not a follower of Christ and an active part of the church body then you just gave them a bill for what Jesus commanded his followers to do.

Pretty sure Jesus didn't say go out and build schools, hire teachers, incur overhead and do it all for free....we all make choices for our kids, some cost $$$$. If you don't want to incur the debt, don't send your kid to the school that costs money...don't make this family not paying their bill be Jesus' fault...

No, that's not the end of the story. LexCath's handling of this incident qualifies as an unmitigated PR disaster. The fallout will be felt for months to come.

...Lexington Catholic reached out to LEX 18 with a statement on behalf of Dr. Steve Angelucci regarding the latest allegations,"The children we are entrusted to teach and mentor are at the heart of everything we do. We are mindful of our responsibilities to them including to put their interests first and foster an environment of caring, love and acceptance. We take the allegations made by Mr. Jones seriously. We will investigate the incidents he described and how they were handled as well as make every attempt to contact the individuals who indicated they experienced bullying or other inappropriate behavior. While it is very important that we examine the current incident, it is equally important that we do the same with these past alleged incidents. We will undertake this effort with our eyes wide open. It is vital that we know more – especially about these past allegations – than we do today before taking action or making further comment."

After catching up on this thread and reading the latest from LC Administration, I agree this thread is becoming unhealthy and we should let this process play out on it's own.

I've already heard that this will affect current football players on the team. This is a bad black eye for Lexington Catholic.

Maybe the administration should have listened to the students being harassed. They gave the wannabe lyncher in school suspension and now he is being brought up on charges. NOW they want to investigate. They brought this on themselves.

Other than these kids played on a football team, im struggling to see why Lex Cath is involved in the first place.

What happened to the recruitment allegations n this story?

Specifically referring to the tuition owed situation....all the rest falls outside the fact that the tuition wasn't paid. The balance sorts itself out.

Linking release of transcripts to full payment of tuition is educational elitism at its worst, given the seriousness of what happened. The school -- if it was smart -- would have expedited the transfer process, then attempted to quietly work out a payment plan involving tuition owed. I'm always amazed how some people or institutions only think in legal terms.

Put sports and tuition on the back burner. The larger problem for the school is justifying its actions when it purports to be a "better choice" than public schools for developing the character of young people.

What is the cost to play on a team at Lex Cath. Im sure there is a fee.

Most individually required fees deal with costs of summer camp and other specific items. These are not much. As noted, there specific fund raising activities that are team oriented to cover the a) the general cost of the program (it has to stand on its own financially overall) and b) individual practice and workout clothing. To address the first item a high end media guide is generated that includes advertising for the second item that main activity has been a 'lift-a-thon'. Failure to make the pre-determined goals can result in a fee be allocated out. At times a benevolent family will cover the difference.

If it is illegal for a school to withhold a child's transcript as per state law/statute (which I was told by a very knowledgeable school administrator that it IS illegal and he had the KRS on his desk that referenced it), then it doesn't matter what language is put in the school contract. That contract can't supersede/suspend state law. So language may be in many contracts that state the school will withhold transcripts if X happens, but it's not enforceable IF it actually goes against state law.
