Fundraising is a way to get around the "we don't reduce tuition or give scholarships" rule for athletes.

Angelluci is the embodiment of the phrase “empty suit”, and Stephens is ineffective at best and duplicitous and more when it serves her purposes.

 

This was yet one more problem that could have been solved by fast, strong, and decisive leadership. But they have none.

 

This incident is not at all representative of the general Lexington Catholic student community. My son is a 2014 graduate of LexCath. He is bi-racial and non-Catholic. Not only were there no racial problems, but we were very pleased with the open and embracing community of all the students. Black, white, Hispanic, Oriental, Middle Eastern, European, African, you name it, and all religious beliefs and non-beliefs accepted. So many good people and lasting friendships among the parents as well as the students. We gave the community an A, the education a B, and the leadership an F.

 

So don’t paint with too broad a brush. Sounds like some bad apples for sure, but ineffective leadership with misplaced values. This has been an ongoing pattern.

 

This incident disturbs me, even more disturbing that reports in Lexington are that a second family has stepped forward in support, reporting a similar incident with their child this school year, and once again reporting no satisfaction from school administration. Time for a change.

Fundraising for football is done. Never heard of fundraising for actual tuition. There can be needs based aid, but it's small in total if granted.

 

LexCath football made sure it was complying with fundraising guidelines a few years ago. This meant no 'quota' based targets or requirements. Being involved with that, we would set a 'team' goal. And if the team made it then the items were provided to the team - regardless of participation. And keeping everything at a team level in terms of reporting, etc. was important.

 

There where overachievers and those who really did not participate. But that is how things go.

Once we went to team only approach we never pressured players or parents. But that was a few years ago.

The article mentioned a fundraiser . I am guessing Demarco had not held up his end of the fundraising and as a result this kid went wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too far and trying to encourage him to get his act together.

I think either the article or the parent has introduced a distortion of facts here.

 

No fundraising at LexCath would expect a kid to bring in $4000. $100 for sub sandwiches, $100 for raffle tickets, $400 in advertising for the booster book in basketball, those were the numbers we were asked for, and absolutely none of it impacted individual tuition.

 

ALL private schools write a contract stating that transcripts will not be released until families meet their contracted financial obligations. In all cases I’ve heard of, when families left due a bad fit, a family move, or a catastrophic family event, the schools were very cooperative in making adjustments. In some cases they’ve even made adjustments for expelled students, which the contracts do not require. In a case like this I'd expect the school to void any billing for the time not attended for the rest of the school year, but who knows?

 

Approximate LexCath tuition for a non-practicing Catholic (meaning not giving money as a parish member) would be near $10,000 per year, before any financial aid was taken into consideration. With 1 ½ months left in the school year, a max of $2000 should be left on a family’s tuition bill. So I would take these statements with a grain of salt.

In practice, in a transfer to a public school this has little impact, a school can place a child appropriately based on report cards, although attendance and discipline issues are undocumented. Qualification for a magnet program could be compromised if there are undocumented test results.

 

The real bite of this policy is when families want to transfer from one private to another - it shows financial troubles - and again when the student wants college admission and only a school-generated transcipt is accepted.

Well stated. No school has found how to guarantee that only good kids attend. I say that as a parent of 2 CCH grads and 1 NDA grad.

I have some history with LC and I must say, pickup trucks, assault rifles and rebel flags are some what of an outlier for this student population historically.

 

I honestly chuckled when I read that, I'm still shaking my head.
