Black Student Threatened with Lynching by Lexington Catholic High School Teammate

Featured Replies

If the kid was an 8th grader, is it still a bylaw 16 violation? I have seen mail outs from private schools in Louisville to kids 100 miles away when they are in the 8th grade.

My guess is the KHSAA looks at a school mailer that goes out from the school (assuming it's the same mailer that goes out to other kids) quite differently than a COACH picking up the phone and calling an athlete.

I had no idea that Richie Incognito had relatives at LexCath.

Terrible response by the administration to this.

I can't even comprehend how badly they handled this.

Mtn Ref, what if the text said "I'm going to KILL you!??" Community service?

Kids throw out the word kill like it's a common thing to say.

You can google a thousand things worse that's been said by people to other people

Was this story known in the LexCath community already or did it all just surface within the last 24 hours?

Nothing will happen on the KHSAA front....nothing.

So no matter what someone says to another it never rises above "community service?"

If the KHSAA sweeps these (and other) types of allegations under the rug then we are entering a Wild Wild West Period in KY High School Athletic Recruiting.

I understand numerous football coaches (mostly in the Central KY area) are watching the KHSAA very close to see what Julian (the KHSAA) does to LexCath.

Nothing like a smoking ByLaw 16 Gun to make things interesting...

If these were legit threats then it can not be tolerated.

If this was a normal banter back and forth between teammates when they were heated while not good or productive it would be different.

As PP92 said if conversations between my friends or former teammates were recorded I'd be embarrassed. Friends of all races.

If the kid felt threatened and this wasn't normal I'd like to know the punishment or any mediation done surrounding the incident.

People also have to remember this is a private school so they don't normally had this issues as zero tolerance and treat each case individually.

On the surface this looks terrible and inexcusable.

Times have changed....this must be handled as a credible threat and appropriate action taken.

All of us old farts can sit here and downplay this but we are not "back in my day" anymore. Too many students have killed or been killed and any threat has to be credible.

As far as the violation of KHSAA bylaws, I am interested to see how this plays out. There is a ton to win or lose here depending on which side of the fence you are on. Public v Private as well as all of the gaping loopholes which basically allows free reign on where you go to school.

For the record I want anarchy when it comes to the KHSAA . I want kids to be able to transfer as much or as often as they want.

"Last night an article appeared in social media about a hate crime occurring between two Lexington Catholic students. We met with all of our students today to discuss the dangers of offensive language and social media. We continue to thoroughly investigate the entire situation. The incident in no way reflects the culture or environment which Lexington Catholic High School promotes. We ask for your prayers for all the parties involved and for the entire Lexington Catholic school community.

What is interesting is that I thought it had already been addressed by the school. Now they seem to be investigating again.

Yeesh....

I also find it very very interesting that the initial exposure to this racial incident also unknowingly could have exposed a violation of KHSAA rules. Talk about a huge problem for LexCath right now. Wow.
