Playing Devil's Advocate.....has everyone who is saying the list is a joke and has no credibility seen every girl on this list play? I know I have only seen two of them play, Seygan Robins and Erin Boley. I haven't seen any of the others play including Whitney Creech. I've seen stats but we all know stats don't automatically earn you a spot on the team.

 

I know I certainly don't qualify to make any picks on this team but I know what I have been told by people who I feel do qualify to speak on girl's basketball and I trust their opinion.

 

Girls on the list are good there is no doubt and I have seen half of them. Creech averaged 50 ppg and nearly 15 rpg while shooting a very high percentage against double and triple teams. She went D1 and will likely be 1st team All State on all the ballots (time will tell). If you have those numbers and set a record that we may never seen broken, I would like to see the 10 girls better than her. I would like to see that list guard her 1 on 1 and see how she does against them as a whole (Boley would win for sure, but not sure about the rest). Her jersey is going to the Hall of Fame, but she cant make a top 10 list?

 

Im sure the committee has pure intentions to get these student athletes recognition and are fair, judging to the best of their ability. He has seen some very good players this season and the last few. Just because he has seen them I do not think his opinion on ranking them would be justified though. Maybe this is a bad analogy as I am not comparing the committee to a 13 year old per say, but if they saw all the players I dont see how she is not in the middle of that list somewhere or at least on that list. That they have a stand alone criteria for choosing their team and they stand by their decision. I can respect that. They went with their judgment and what their eyes and expertise tells them. It could also point to the fact that there is a lot of talent in the state in girls basketball right now that people may not know about or girls that may not be as popular because they don't score 50 points a game.

 

I expect Creech to make all three of those teams. She is the easy popular choice. She averaged 50 points a game. She's going to WKU. I get it. I think she is deserving of a spot on the team but as I stated I am not nearly as qualified as those on the committee. I trust their judgment. They made an unpopular decision and they stood by it to put together what they felt was a list of the 10 best players in the state in girls basketball.

I admit I haven't seen most of the girls on the list play but I did see Creech play several times. She is really, really good. She saw double and triple team defenses and still averaged 50 while shooting a high percentage. She has a deadly pull up lefty jumper and has many crafty ways of getting open and getting her shot off. She is an excellent free throw shooter and finds ways to get fouled. She also signed with a D-1 school. The one thing I did notice about her was she doesn't take a lot of 3 pointers, but she didn't need to do that to get her points. And it was difficult to get a judgement on her defense because the team couldn't afford to get her in foul trouble. However, I think she will be very good at WKU and Jeez will she ever be relieved to not see double and triple defenses at that level.

 

With all that said I would be inclined to think she should easily fit into a top 10 all state ranking, maybe even top 5.

You just can't overlook the numbers Creech threw up. And if she was on a weak team then that made it all the easier to double and triple her and she still averaged 50. I'm going to say it again people,50 pts a game, that's a fricking head scratcher. And going D1 to boot, wow.

Getting triple teamed by Wolfe County isn't the same as getting triple teamed by ETown, Butler, Franklin County and others. I would have been more interested in seeing how she would accomplish that. It's a shame that we didn't get to see her play against tougher competition.

Still 50 points and 14 rebounds per game, you have to make the team.

I have actually watched 7 on the list play. To be honest, not having crèech listed is absurd. I'm not getting into who she should replace but EASILY in top 5. I'll take her on my team and boley and you pick your next top 7 and I will win hands down 9 out of 10 times.

Another way of looking at it is if she had played with Boley this year at E-Town they would have won the state championship. Those two together would be a tough task for any opponent.

But we aren't talking about what player they will be in college. Look at her numbers. I know she played a lot of weaker teams, but almost 60 points a game is 60 points.

So is that how we rate girls basketball by what colleges want them or what college they are going to. Some pick schools that fit them, look at Sidney Moss goes from Florida to Thomas More for whatever reason, yes I know you thinking what I thinking but none the less. How Creech doesn't make the top 10 is beyond me and although I agree with the competition piece, but I look at it like this so if she played on a better team against better competition instead of 50 a game she averages 25-30.

BGP, love your polls almost as much as I love Coach Cal. He missed one on Skal. BGP missed one in the blatant omission of Creech. Both have enough cred to be entitled to an occassional miss.
