I thought Boley, being the top-ranked player in the nation, was deserving of Miss Basketball, but Creech had to be right behind with her amazing accomplishments.

I don't think most of you realize how amazing it is that Creech could lead a school like Jenkins to within one game of the state tournament. Jenkins has about 150 students and had six high school girls on the team. I don't think any player could have done what Creech did this year at Jenkins. I saw Jenkins play Leslie County (the eventual region champ) at Leslie and Leslie double teamed her the length of the court the entire game and she still finished with 48 points and led Jenkins to a win. I've watched girls basketball since 1974-75 and have never seen anything so impressive from one player in one game.

I'm not sure about other people commenting on this thread.. But I personally see THOUSANDS of girls basketball players each year.

And I've seen each player on this list at least 10-15 times each. I have no argument whatsoever with the committe's decision to leave Creech out of the top 10. She is a good player. But she is a low D1 player in terms of talent. All of the other players on this list are talented enough to play at BCS schools and will probably do so.

Creech just made 1st Team All State CJ.

And it was difficult to get a judgement on her defense because the team couldn't afford to get her in foul trouble. However, I think she will be very good at WKU and Jeez will she ever be relieved to not see double and triple defenses at that level.

 

He did say overall contributions to the team so maybe her defense was a big factor. I haven't seen the girl play but I can imagine that they hide her on defense to keep her from getting fouls. Not unless they have 6 arms and six legs and weigh around 450 lbs with the ability to be in front of you and behind you at the same time. Take 3 middle school players and have them guard you body up and see how easy it is to dribble full court and score.

Like I said in the beginning I haven't watched her play in person. I have watched her highlights and most of those consist of her getting a rebound or loose ball and dribbling the full length of the court and scoring. I've seen no highlights of her facing an established double team in the full court and going the length of the floor. Anyone that has ever been doubled in the half court knows that if the two defenders doubling you aren't good defenders you're going to score anyway. Often they will get in each other's way and if you know how to attack double teams they really aren't that hard to beat if they're not good defenders. She's going to have a much harder time scoring at WKU because there are plenty of D1 defenders that can keep her in front of them and have the length to contest that pull-up jumper. I would rather face a mediocre double team than a solid defender any day.

And none of the above is intended to take away from what she has accomplished. I'm just saying that her level of competition was probably a huge deciding factor. Looking at their schedule, they didn't play any teams that were really good or had a lockdown defender that could make her night a long one.

I don't care if she played poor competition, 50 points per game is 50 points per game. Come knock at my door the next time that happens, I might be dead by then. She should have been the second player on this list behind Erin Boley. No ifs and buts about it.

 

I bet half of those players wouldn't have averaged 50 points per game if they had played for Jenkins this season. Jenkins would have been lucky to have won two games this season without Creech.

 

And, Creech didn't just take a 1,000 shots and make only 30 percent, she shot 56.1 percent while taking 1,102 shots. That's impressive. Then, you can add in the fact that she averaged 14 rebounds per game while she's only 5-foot-8. Leaving her off the list is a JOKE. You're punishing her for being from Jenkins. That's not her fault.

 

Think about it this way, would you not name Pete Maravich (averaged 40 plus points per game in each of his four seasons) an All-American even though LSU never made the NCAA Tournament while he was there? He was named an All-American three times and Player of the Year by many publications his senior year.

 

Yet, Creech doesn't get named to the BGP team because she didn't play for a great team and isn't going to a high caliber D-I school. She may not be the most talented, she may have done it the old fashioned way, but she made her team 400 percent better.

 

For me, if you average 30+ points and 10+ rebounds per game and lead your team to a regional final, I don't care if you're going to an NAIA school, you deserve to be on a list as one of the 10 best players in the state regardless if you're a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.

Like I mentioned on the boys thread, look how they differ from girls, multiple players on the ALL BGP First team, that aren't going D1. You can't tell me Conor McKim is an All Classes top 10 player in the state. Faulkner averaged 35ppg at an A school, against modest competition and he made "first team". Creech being left off this team is an absolute embarrassment. Creech is what KY Basketball is all about, best player in the state, Nope, but she had Jenkins one game away from a State Tourney appearance.

You actually give another reason to not use the "50 PPG" stat.

 

She shot the ball 33 TIMES PER GAME and that doesn't count the times she got fouled. She shot 15 FTs per game.

 

33 times per game against below average teams? You should score a lot of points even against strong competition.

Not sure what I think about Creech vs the rest of the field argument. I think the people choosing the All Blue Grass preps team need to be really clear that they are picking the 10 most talented players in their opinion if that's the case. Any other criteria it seems difficult to not have Creech on the list. No one could possibly have been more valuable to their team, or no one (including Boley) attained a more notable record (all time scoring).

 

I disagree that Creech did what the other girls on the list (besides Boley) couldn't do. I disagree and so do hundreds of college D1 scouts and coaches that would rather have the girls listed on the BGP team than Creech. To me, that's enough evidence right there.

 

Also, lending great credibility to the BGP list is the All-State list that just came out. Exactly the same players except Creech instead of Berger.

I would have said she belongs on the list before reading the 100+ posts on this thread, and after reading all this, I've yet to see any tangible reason why she shouldn't be.
