I would have said she belongs on the list before reading the 100+ posts on this thread, and after reading all this, I've yet to see any tangible reason why she shouldn't be.

This is an example of a very bad trend in high school basketball due to the AAU influence on the game. If you don't measure up to a certain standard based on your college potential, you somehow are less of a player. High school awards should be based on high school accomplishments, not what your college pedigree is. Creech carrying Jenkins to the regional finals is an amazing accomplishment that very players in the history of girls high school basketball can match. The fact that a school with a tradition like Western wants her seems to make the AAU snobs even angrier and more determined to put Creech in her place.

Did you ever watch her play for Jenkins? I have at least 5+ times and have to say I did have the same thought process as you. Then the more times I watched her the more I was impressed. I'm not convinced she will be a huge success at wky but she was one heck of a high school player. Very much like Richie farmer's success

 

But to answer your question. I don't know if their are two players on the list that could do that playing 1 on 5. If you didn't see her play then you don't realize the unique skill she developed in splitting a double team and scoring.

So, we're penalizing her for being on a bad team? Good players on bad teams are going to take a lot of shots because that's how you win ball games on not so great teams.

 

The fact that she took so many shots and still shot a high percentage is remarkable. She's getting penalized for being on a bad team.

 

I almost assure you if she averaged 30 points per game and 14 rebounds for Perry County Central, Knott County Central, or Letcher County, that she would be on the BGP team and we wouldn't be siting here having this conversation.

 

But, here we are, where Creech scores 5,000 career points, and averaged an astonishing 50 points per game as senior, yet that's not good enough because she was on a bad Jenkins team.

 

I don't know if I'd blame the AAU circuit for this, but it's a shame that Creech isn't getting the respect she deserves.

 

What she did this past season will probably never happen again, that right there makes her worthy of being on the BGP team. This was a historic season.

I don't know how many shots she took per game, but I do know from watching them play a few times that she was the only chance they had to beat average eastern Kentucky teams. I saw her as a junior and thought she was a good player on a bad team. I was amazed when I saw what she did this season against the eventual regional champion.

"THE COMMITTEE" members have all tired themselves out defending a position that really appears to not only be incredibly wrong, but also appears to be egotistical("we know better than everyone else"), and also vindictive("see, all you folks who thought she should be PLAYER OF THE YEAR, she didn't even make our list"). Creech was a super easy pick, but y'all outthunk yourselves. Sad....

Again, how do i get on THE COMMITTEE for next year? Cuz if i get on there, that must mean I'm smart.

 

Then again, maybe this is just brilliant marketing! Here's the scenario at THE COMMITTEE meeting....."guys, guys, hey we make more money when we have more activity, so let's leave off an obvious and easy choice that incite the masses so that we have more posters, more traffic, and ergo, more money."

Nah, that's giving THE COMMITTEE way too much credit.

She averaged 33.4 shots per game and averaged 50.3 ppg. So if she averaged 40 shots per game; I suppose I'd expect her to average right at 60 ppg.

 

Perhaps she could have cracked the top ten then.
