Open Job: Paducah-Tilghman

Featured Replies

One thing I hope he can do is motivate the players to do the best they can. He is a motivational speaker, so maybe he can do it. But one of Tilghman's ill's the last few seasons has been a lack of size. Some of their players are very small. Size does matter on the front line.

Yes and no. Size does help but technique is more important. Just ask Mayfield.

I believe coach Barber will be able to teach fundamentals and technique and get the most out of what he has. This has been lacking for several years at PT

That being said, part of the reason Tilghman has been so small is because the team did so much conditioning during the Wyatt Era that he ran most of the bigger kids off. Hopefully Barber will have a more balanced approach to conditioning and keep the beefy lineman types around.

I am starting to question the new regime with a little harder look. First bringing in Wyatt as the OC brings with it the some of the baggage that left with Wyatt and honestly his offense was not very good largely due to the lack of discipline. When he left the fan base was split over him and from street talk seems to still be. Secondly the temperament of Wyatt was not good especially in the latter part of his days as head coach though pressure is tough on anyone when a team is not living up to expectations. I have heard Barber can also be hot headed though I can not say that I know this from anything other than hearsay. If true, this could be a powder keg if they start the season 0-3 or 0-4 and that is a strong possibility. The other thing that gets me about Barber is the direction of his career. It it backwards to me.

Per Wikipedia "Barber was originally named the UNLV Rebels football linebackers coach in 2004. After having coached at the University of Utah, Kent State and Tennessee-Martin. He began his coaching career in 1998 at Riverside Community College. He was the Offensive Line coach at Campbellsville University in Kentucky and is now the head coach at Paducah Tilghman High School in his hometown of Paducah, KY." Instead of moving up in position he has not done so like to a coordinator or head coach and the schools, instead of moving up he has gone down. UNLV, finally Campbellsville and then out there so now PT.

Maybe that means nothing but it just didn't pass my eyeball or smell test. Anyone else make anything of it?

Not really worried about it now, I think the Wyatt you saw as a head coach will not be the same situation as a coordinator under Barber. Barber is calling the shots from top to bottom this time.

As far as Barber moving down, it may be perceived as that but he went from UNLV, to WKU to get closer to home. When WKU cleaned house of all their coaches he went to Campbellsville to work with Perry Thomas, another local acquaintance.

Barber is a stand-up guy and you will see his input on the field and in the community. He will be a positive influence on the kids.

Give the guy a chance and don't judge him on anything else.

I haven't read anything about his style or what he likes to do as far as coaching. PT always has talented guys, so maybe he can whip them into shape.

Joe Casey will have a role with this team if Wyatt is back, wonder if Art Davis will be the special teams coach?

Art is an assistant in all sports.

Staff is beginning to fill in, heard of 2 more added today and interview for another

This potential coaching staff seems a little pathetic to me..1st) barber has been at multiple coaching spots with limited success..2nd) Wyatt is in no form a capable football coach, must less a coordinator..his offenses struggled terribly & his only success should be credited to Mr. LARRY SHANKS..3) regardless of who u put in charge of a program, u must set a high standard for the kids, and I feel tilghman is taking steps toward the past, which ultimately wasn't successful..i will say it first, they make a hell of a mistake letting rodgers leave the program..

I love how people are judging a coach before he ever holds his first practice.

Now if you want to talk pathetic.........

Wyatt is in no form a capable football coach, must less a coordinator..

From what I gather, Wyatt will not be the coordinator, I am unsure what his role will be. From what I heard they offered the OC to someone and if the name I am hearing takes it look out, he in my opinion would be a great hire. I think we are going to just have to wait and see who all ends up on board but I have been back and fourth in my take on it so far but if they get the guy for OC I am hearing I think the Blue Tornado may be moving in the right direction, something I had started doubting a couple days ago

OC - Jack Haskins...if that happens, PT will roll.

Jack is not going to be the O.C. but you are not far off. LOL. Think of it this way score quickly and often then play ridiculous defense. The staff is going to do a ridiculous job. People are doubting Big Blue just like they always have and probably for good reason. But mark my words they will be much improved and will give 3A all they want in the west this year and for years to come if this coaching staff stays together for a bit. If the Alumni and Administration buy in well then, its going to get real interesting in Western KY. Give this staff that are coming to the dance a bit late the summer and i guarantee they will not start 0-3 like some are saying. more like 2-1 or so. and give Mayfield a shot in the arm. This is probably going to be the best coaching staff at PT in 20 years or so. Get behind em and PT will be a perennial winner.

Regardless of the coaching staff in place at PT...u can never bet against the Mayfield Cardinals..sayings PT can hang with mayfield is very ironic..like comparing apples to oranges lol.
