Open Job: Paducah-Tilghman

Featured Replies

Mike has never wanted his players to play other sports. That is his way and he will not change. He has never won anything big time so he got in a squabble with Randy and it did not go his way so he quit. Have to share players in a small school.

I can't speak into the situation at Paducah, but many (most?) of his best players at Warren Central played multiple sports, and that often included track. Chris Porter-Bunton, Michael Bush, Troy Halcomb, Rondell Green, Byron Carver, Robert Edwards, etc. And I guarantee they were more desperate for numbers at Central than he was at Paducah.

Outsiders never do well there
Dan Haley, Alan Cox, Perry Thomas would disagree. There was issues with Randy Wyatt prior to him getting the Tilghman football job when Perry Thomas was coach. There were many issues in his tenure as coach at PT. Now there are issues with him after resigning/being let go as football coach that has caused the present coach to resign after 2 years. Is there a pattern that has developed?

Hammer meet nail!

Just saying if they want to have a chance to be successful he needs to be the football and track coach.

They were not too happy with Wyatt when he was coach. Don't see him coming back.

Wyatt for the most part failed at football at PT. The program was on a steady downward slide. The measure of success there are state titles and beating Mayfield. He was fortunate to win that lone title with a team that was average at best as its record indicated and he never once beat Mayfield. Now there is a third measure of success, beating McCracken. I cant see them bringing Randy back unless they have decided that it was never as bad as they thought it was. I further cant see Randy wanting to go back, he has a huge ego and it was clearly bruised. That said Rogers never won a title or beat Mayfield either but he was only there 2 seasons. Given the unrest in the last decade, I am not sure how desirable of a job this is at this time. Anyway, that is the way it seems to me from over in Mayfield and I could be way off target

I beg to differ. 5 out of 6 years he was in the regional, semi, or state finals. Since 1912, he was only 1 of 3 to win a state title. He has has numerous kids playing division 1 football. And one to soon be drafted by the NFL. His playoff record in six years was 14 and 4. If you call that a downward slide, then you don't know sports. youre in the same sinking boat as Mike Rogers. The cat is out of the bag on Mike Rogers.

This job sounds really good because it's Tilghman, but I'm not so sure it is. Once upon a time it was considered the best job in western Kentucky, and now I don't know if it's even best job in the county.

In your opinions where would Tilghman rank right now with Mayfield, Murray, Owensboro, O'Cath, McCracken, Christian, Hoptown, Caldwell, Madisonville and Graves?

Will be hard to find a good replacement this late. How about a comeback for Wyatt?

As a mayfield fan I would hope so,, he was the best weapon Mayfield had against Tilghman.

A question for Mayfield fans: Clearly, Mayfield has a great staff. Historically, do assistant coaches from Mayfield become head coaches at other schools? I would think that they would certainly be qualified if they were of a mind to want to become a head coach.

I said I could be off target and my posts is from my view outside the program so take what I said as you will. But I will add that Randy was coach at a time when the 6 class system set up PT with the easiest road to a title ever as the backdrop with expectations for PT that were sky high. He had more just as you pointed out with D-1 talent yet he got less from them. The PT teams under Randy were the most undisciplined teams in program history and certainly underachieved in many peoples eyes, especially PT fans who essentially ran him out. He currently holds the PT coaching record for most losses in a row to Mayfield, a team that had few if any D-1 kids. That is what leads me to my conclusion, obviously, you see it differently.

Yes, we have had a good many former players and coaches become head coaches. Off the top of my head. Joe Prince who recently left Owensboro, Head is the skipper at Christian County, Lawson was recently the boss at Calloway County. David Morris at Mercer awhile back. We also had Tony Franklin on staff for a bit before he became famous but he is from Caldwell County. I just thought that some might find that interesting

Is it legal for a HS school coach to use his/her school's facilities to train students from other schools for profit?

Wow! This could get interesting.

Not necessarily. If the coach is paying a fee for using the facilities for that training (just like many camps around the state that use schools facilities), then there should be no issues. Ex: QB camp at John Doe High pays 500 dollars to use the football facilities and brings kids in from all over the country and makes 10k on the camp. Nothing illegal or shady there...now, it gets interesting if there is no rental of the facility and a coach is running camps for profit and other organizations have been charged in the past to do the same thing. And more than anything Im sure district policy plays a bigger role.
