Adam LaRoche Quits White Sox Over Son

Featured Replies

No way this is a big deal to the players. Cute kid. Cute story. Not a lockerroom issue though IMO.

Karl Ravech said the team wasn't going to play yesterday and Robin Ventura had to talk them off of the ledge to play. He says they want the front office banned from the clubhouse now along with kids and everyone is throwing everyone under the bus in Chicago at this point. That's a fractured team from top to bottom.

In general maybe but this doesn't strike me as a family first move.

What do you see it as?

I guarantee the White Sox are thrilled to be saving that $13M.

I'm sure they are, and if LaRoche was at the peak of his career he probably wouldn't have walked away, but was at a point in his career where he could.

Especially when he hit .207 last year.

For $13M a year lil Johnny would suddenly be a latch-key kid. LOL

A convenient excuse.

It might have been the only excuse he needed to go ahead and retire, but he still could have milked Chicago for another $13 million. I applaud him.

I ain't mad at him but I don't applaud him. He's incapable of performing at a 13 million dollar level and he's using his kid to justify walking away from the game.

Here's my take...

LaRoche is on the back side of his career, has made a ton of money, and struggled big time last year. He is a huge hunter and is has his own show on the outdoor channel called Buck Commander. He is in with Willie Robertson, Tombo Martin, Ryan Langerhans, Luke Bryan, and Jason Aldean. LaRoche is pretty limited in how much he can be apart of the show and really limited on his hunting in general since baseball season runs through alot of the hunting seasons. With his kid getting older and his work on the show, I'm guessing he just figured it was time, especially if he wasn't going to be able to see his kid as much.

Just saw that. Said it was heated.

This situation went from odd to crazy. There has to be players who went to the front office with this. I find it hard to believe the front office laid down the law without some kind of push from somebody. Why would they care if a player's kid is in the locker room?

Adam Laroche was a year away from an $85 million career. America is already pretty great Mr. Trump.

I can see both sides of the argument.

But still passing up that much money. OUCH.

I am fine with the positions of both sides of this situation, but what his teammates are doing threatening not to play and such is beyond absurd.
