Adam LaRoche Quits White Sox Over Son

Featured Replies

What's most fascinating is how the LaRoche's view education for their son Drake. He only goes for a few months in the winter and misses the rest of the year. He is with his dad UNLESS he has a game and then he goes to those games (BUT not school). From 2013: Don't take my word for it. Listen to LaRoche' date=' in a 2013 Washington Post story. "We're not big on school," LaRoche said. "I told my wife, 'He's going to learn a lot more useful information in the clubhouse than he will in the classroom, as far as life lessons.'" It's not "home school." He still gets grades from his school that , in reality, he doesn't attend. The lockerroom is more valuable than school? Dude is odd IMO. LaRoche was raising his kid in a clubhouse. Bad idea.

Wow, his trust fund better be heavy.

He sure is a young looking 14.

I respect LaRoche's decision but bringing your kid around 120 games in a season is abusing the team. Can you imagine what your boss would do if you brought your kid to work 120 days out of a year? I know it's baseball but there is a lot of money on the line and it's work. I can't believe anyone would be bold enough to think it's alright to do that.

This.

Plus, I feel like you need to be more on guard with a kid around.

This kid will likely freak out when he is put in with a group of his peers.

Why do You assume he's never around his peers now?

Why do you assume he is? He's home schooled and was his dad at work more than 100 times a year.

I did say if he was or wasn't. I was just asking why you assume he isn't. You don't think the son of a major league player has any friends? Or his dad's friends don't have kids?

Most parents would be put in Jail if their kid didnt attend school.

Well...this changes my mind about LaRoche a whole lot:

Adam LaRoche Quit Baseball To Follow His Faith, But What He Won't Say Is Heartbreaking

LaRoche appears to be a devout Christian man that practices what he preaches. Kudos.

I stop short on saying this was behaving in a "role model" like behavior, in this instance. We are just judging based on this scenario. I really don't think it is much deeper than what we have read about the situation.

He's still a fool.

He could do a lot more to help people with that $13 million.

I would think saving girls from being sex slaves is worth a whole lot more than $13 million.

He was already at spring training he didn't quit baseball to go help sex slaves he quit baseball because they didn't let his son stay in the clubhouse , a place he should have never been.

Yes, I know. That took place in the off season. But if those are types of things he is going to do more of (which I don't know if he will or not) then that money means nothing. And I seriously doubt he's hurting much over that money.

Correct. God bless him for all of his good deeds but that was not part of his equation.

Still curious how he explains to his daughter that he was willing to miss time with her but not willing to miss time with his son.
