My hunch is players and coaches over the past year(s) have made mention of his constant presence in the clubhouse. If the players think they were lied to or that this is an unfair policy, deal with it. They have been grieved in no way from what I can see. The players do not like management mingling in the locker room. Ok. On the flip side, management has an obligation to protect itself from unsafe practices in the locker room. Constantly having a child around a workplace is problematic in so many ways, especially around a group of men in a locker room setting.

According to Sale, not a single player nor coach has an issue with this. If they did have, they sure aren't speaking. I think the team threatening to not play says to me that they didn't have any issues with how Roche did things. But whatever management wants do.

As I said above, I don't think any player is going to come out and say anything against having his son in the clubhouse.
March 18, 201610 yr Sort of unrelated, but I forgot for a second that Frazier ended up with the White Sox. It's kind of funny that they have locker room turmoil before the season starts after bringing in, by all accounts, a guy who is one of the best around in that respect.

I'd imagine those aged 30 and up with kids don't mind him being around and that those 29 and below would prefer he not be around. I also imagine that those against it aren't going to publicly speak out. This reeks of one of those situations where we will get a quote from an "anonymous player" who sides with the front office. Especially now that news is out that the players were going to not play yesterday because of how this was handled. There is no way the whole locker room wanted Drake Laroche around all of the time to the point the kid had his own locker.[/quote Someone had to say something negatively. March 20, 201610 yr I respect LaRoche's decision but bringing your kid around 120 games in a season is abusing the team. Can you imagine what your boss would do if you brought your kid to work 120 days out of a year? I know it's baseball but there is a lot of money on the line and it's work. I can't believe anyone would be bold enough to think it's alright to do that.

He is with his dad UNLESS he has a game and then he goes to those games (BUT not school). From 2013: Don't take my word for it. Listen to LaRoche, in a 2013 Washington Post story. "We're not big on school," LaRoche said. "I told my wife, 'He's going to learn a lot more useful information in the clubhouse than he will in the classroom, as far as life lessons.'" It's not "home school." He still gets grades from his school that , in reality, he doesn't attend. The lockerroom is more valuable than school? Dude is odd IMO. LaRoche was raising his kid in a clubhouse. Bad idea.
March 21, 201610 yr Author My guess (and somewhat based on the earlier link) is that guys are too nice to tell LaRoche that having his son around ALL OF THE TIME is troublesome. They went to Kenny Williams. Williams is taking the hit in order to not have a fissure in the lockerroom. Sale et all will realize that they have made a much bigger deal of this than it warranted.
