Ohio judge allows 17 yr olds to vote in Ohio next week

Hard to believe this subject has never come up before...

Well hell, lets just toss all the darn rules and regulations out. Give 'em ballots as soon as they can learn to read! Is the left that hard up for voters? I didn't think so but.......

This kind of thing just doesn't stop here. What's next, 6-yr-olds co-signing loans?

I was under the impression that if you were going to be 18 at the time of the presidential election you were allowed to vote in the primary that would affect that election directly anyway. I seem to recall that back when I was in high school.

Me too...but it seems Ohio was allowing these kids a chance to vote in local issues but not national. Strange.

Ol dog, I think you are kind of confused. This is pretty common or at least in KY and I'm pretty certain in the US.

I remember voting as a 17 year old for Bill Clinton.

Like a 17 yr old even has a clue to National Politcs.

I bet 3out of 4 of them don't even know the VP or where most countries like North Korea are located.

Probably think Mexico is in South America

So they can vote at 17 in the primary, however can't join the military, get married, purchase a pack of forbidden cigarettes or take a sip of liquor at the age of 17. Interesting

Seventeen year olds can vote in the primaries in KY if they will turn 18 before the election.

Yeah, and it's been that way for a long time. I voted in my first prez primary at 17. What's the ruckus?

At what point does one officially get a clue?? Let's raise the voting age to 30. Or maybe we should make them take a test or prove their "worthiness" to vote. And question number 1 can be "On which continent is Mexico located?"

Many states do allow 17 years old's that will be 18 and able to vote in the election to be able to vote in primaries and caucuses.

On one hand we complain about voter apathy and low turnout. And it's a fact that when people begin voting, they are likely to continue to vote for the rest of their lives. But yet, on the other hand, we think it's a problem that young people get an opportunity to vote because they are "clueless and uninformed", so we think it's a good idea to restrict them from voting, which could lead to the lifelong habit of not voting.

Sad but probably true.

Late to the thread, but I'm pretty sure that this issue is "affiliation-neutral".

The only issue here is why any state would NOT let persons who become of age before Election Day vote in a primary.

There's always things that confuse me periodically, but political parties have tried to monkey with voting roles for years to get votes from the lemming types or the misinformed, jmo. I could not vote until I was 18(be it 18 and a day or 18 and 364 days). Wasn't the voting age lowered to 18 around 1970? And no, I'm not for lowering it below 18, of course lowering it is one way to expand the electorate I guess.

I just don't remember being able to vote younger than 18 back in the early 70s. I'm sure mcpapa could enlighten me/us on the facts there. :lol2:

This seems a bit much, my friend.
