Deficit shrinks by $1 trillion in Obama era | MSNBC

I need folks to dispute this and blame MSNBC for being liberal Obama apologists so I will know if this is true or not.

While Obama has not great, he has not been as horrible as people think either. If people remember some of the biggest issues when he took over in office like the debt our country has, not enough jobs, high gas problems, etc. He has actually done well in fixing some of those areas, while some areas still remain.

Overall Obama's biggest weakness is Obamacare. That's a total failure. Locally it's coal. In many other regards he hasn't done a bad job.

It's really a shame you have to post something like this. If a mainstream media outlet can't be trusted on a fact like this thats sad.

 

I hope this is true, it's clearly headed in the right direction if that's the case. My only concern would be if a lot of the savings is coming from military cuts.

 

Given the time and place we were at 8 years ago, Obama was the right vote.

I still believe that, only history will prove or disprove that.

Congress is responsible for the budget, not the President, although he does sign off on it. The budget begins a quick decline after the Republicans take over the House with the 2012 election and continues with the Republican Senate takeover in 2014. There was the budget deal between the 2 parties to hold the line a few years ago that helped. The economy has improved, maybe not at the rate some would like to see, but more tax money has come in to the government coffers. Many of the so-called stimulus programs have run their course, which did not do much too stimulate anything, but the deficit. The private sector made moves that has allowed for some growth. The lowering of gas prices has helped tremendously, which Obama did not support those efforts that helped to lower energy prices. Both sides get some credit, but I would put Obama at the bottom of the list.

I would also add that the budget deficit declined under Clinton after the Republicans, under the leadership of Gingrich, took over Congress in 1996(?).

At the end of post #8, I say both sides get credit. The biggest share of the credit goes to the American public, by demanding changes, forcing our leaders to make changes and by kicking out some the bums. That includes some RHINOS, who lost to more conservative Republicans. And the average American worker and business owners get credit as well, plodding along, in spite of poor decision making in DC. Americans should depend more on theirselves for day to day solutions and less on government.

When I opened the thread, my first question was going to be how much did he cut military spending? I didn't know if that was a factor, but figured it probably contributed quite a bit.

If it's the lowest in 8 years it can't be higher than any time before Obama took office, can it? It would have to be lower than Bush's last year.
