March 11, 201610 yr I'm not really good at math but here is the money we have went in the hole under Obama in millions of dollars. -1,412,688 -1,294,373 -1,299,590 -1,086,963 -679,544 -484,627 -438,406 -615,805 That means the total deficit has grown 7.311 Trillion. All he has done is GROW the deficit SLOWER the last 4 years than he did the first 4 thanks to the congress. And like has been pointed out this years growth is still higher than any growth under any president EVER.
March 11, 201610 yr All he has done is GROW the deficit SLOWER the last 4 years than he did the first 4 Correct.
March 11, 201610 yr In simple terms for the first 200+ years America existed we ran up 10+ trillion dollars of debt. 200 years. The last 8 we have added 7+ trillion.
March 11, 201610 yr So, in the last year the deficit is below the average of the last 35 years if I am reading RP's graph properly. People want the deficit lowered and he is leading that, along with Congress. It is declining with Obamacare. He had to cut somewhere and he and Congress chose defense. No matter where he/they cut some will think it is wrong and he /they cut the wrong thing. Bottom line the deficit is decreasing under his watch.
March 11, 201610 yr Deficit is decreasing from the historical high figures of Bush's last year and Obama's first year. Annual deficit looks like it has shrunk by a trillion from those levels. However, due to those insanely high early years in his administration, in 6 years Obama has rung up 6.24 trillion in debt vs 6.1 trillion over Bush's 8 years.

The math at whitehouse.gov shows Bushs total 8 year deficit to be 2.262087 Trillion.
March 11, 201610 yr The math at whitehouse.gov shows Bushs total 8 year deficit to be 2.262087 Trillion. I'll have to check but I was thinking total debt was 5.8T when he took office and 11.9T when he left.
March 11, 201610 yr So, in the last year the deficit is below the average of the last 35 years if I am reading RP's graph properly. Also correct. Bottom line the deficit is decreasing under his watch. It is, but it's decreasing after it drastically increased during his first four years. I see it like this. If a guy weighed 170 pounds in 2007, then 230 pounds in 2010, and now he's at 190 pounds...he's lost weight, but only because he first gained so much of it. I most definitely see it as a good thing that deficit spending has reduced since 2009, but we have to acknowledge that it really, really spiked during his first term.

True but the 2009 spike was all on Bush as it was his budget.

March 11, 201610 yr True but the 2009 spike was all on Bush as it was his budget. Yes it was. I see him as the guy who started much of this mess. Or at least, it was under his watch. What are we looking at, something like $13 trillion in deficit spending between GWB & Obama?
March 11, 201610 yr I think the combination of a Dem president and Republican congress might be the best for us economically. At least we're going in the right direction, though it still sucks as the national debt just keeps climbing.
