Mercer can play a multitude of ways.(fast,slow,ect ect)

If Mercer can keep the score low, I like their chances in a one or two possession game.

 

If I'm Dunbar , I want as many run out, fast break buckets as I can get.

 

Mercer will have to play multiple junk defences to keep the two Dunbar scorers in front of them.

 

I too think Mercer must limit transition buckets and attempt to keep those guys out of the lane. I think the other key for Mercer is keeping Dunbar off the offensive glass.

 

I will say it will be equally as difficult for Dunbar to keep Mercer's 2 slashers out of the lane. They get there and finish very well. It doesn't appear to me that Dunbar has an eraser in there - like an Elkins of Boyle. Am I wrong on that?

I agree There's only one Colton Elkins in the state....and he don't play for Dunbar...Mercer was VERY successful in attacking the rim vs Elkins, I see no reason why they won't be vs PLD

Playing on a college basketball court is waaaaaaay different from a high school court which is smaller. This years state is not gone be won be an uptempo team... Ain't no way you can run up and down that court full court pressing the whole game thinking you'll make it to a championship game. Your legs will not make it pass the third game it's impossible. Everyone knows state comes down to who can make shots who can execute plays and who can rebound not who can run up and down the court the fastest. I've seen teams that had no business making it to state win stat because they made shots and excecute only a few teams that played uptempo style ball has won

My comment about run outs and fast break buckets doesn't mean they have to play fast every possession.

 

Getting a few of those will help a lot, because the half court buckets will be tough to come by.

 

Only pressing I see is if one team gets behind. Speeding up tempo might equal "layup line"

This is very true. One of the more impressive performances I have seen with Colton in the paint.

Might be more the Bigness of the Moment, than size of floor and backdrop. IMO

Mercer not athletic? Have you seen them play? I have seen as many as 8 guys dunking in layup lines before game. Also have a minimum of 4 that will play college basketball...they are very athletic in my opinion.

I have thought all season long that Mercer County is way more athletic than people give them credit for. Makes me wonder what folks would be saying about them had they lost to South Laurel. :lol2:

Mercer County has no chance. Period. Comparing common opponents is useless. Dunbar is too quick and they have at least the best if not the two best players on the floor. Mercer County's soft schedule will come back to bite them and Dunbar is just better.

I hear ya! Hope they're not driving!

Bottom line is that officiating will play a large part in determining the game. If the refs call hand checks, Dunbar is doomed because they have no bench and they are used to being able to put their hands on offensive players in the 11th, where hand checking is a myth. Mercer will likely play a lot of zone (fewer fouls) and have 7-8 kids in the rotation who can play. If Dunbar gets in foul trouble like Wayne did last year they'll be in danger.
