Augusta 63 Montgomery County 49 (10th Region Semifinals)

Featured Replies

Pretty sure these last two are their only regional wins ever...

They won a regional game in 2014. Before that their last regional win was 1950. Quagmire would know. Did they win region in 1926? Whatever that even looked like.

Did they win region in 1926?

That year sticks out in my mind for some reason.

To the game here, I believe I heard that Montgomery was 5-22 from 3.

And the panthers out rebounded a much bigger team by 10 !!! That's just pure heart and doing what it takes to win !!! This group of kids are something special, playing fundamental smart basketball

To answer the question this is the first trip for Augusta to the regional final. Back in 26 it was a different format.

This is Augusta's fourth ever region win

1950 Carlisle

2014 Robertson County

2016 Scott

2016 Montgomery County

Their 24-6 record is the second best in school history. And their 11 game winning streak is the second best in school history. To match the longest, 15, (1966) they just need to win the state tournament, that's all.

As some of you know, ol' pap has never taken much stock in "home court advantage".

Augusta never backed down from the taller Indians in this one. Took control early and never looked back. After the first couple minutes of the third, there was never any indication that MoCo could get back in it. Panthers repeatedly got open looks under the basket, Indians repeatedly missed on threes. Fuller had a nice game but everyone else seemed off their stride. For A-town, Maddox had his typical game; HUGE contribution from Shoemaker.

Congrats to the Panthers!

Beat Berry in the first round in 1933 before falling to Paris in the semifinals.

This was nothing short of a clinic by Augusta. An absolute clinic coaching and on the floor. Watching the Moco side the fans were in disbelief.

Not sure why Moco didn't go to their bigs on offense. Jones and combs should have been the key targets all night long.

A. Yes, it was. Panthers got more open looks than the SI swimsuit models.

2. Didn't hear much of the "we don't hear you" chants after the first quarter.

D. I felt going in that MoCo's size would be their bread and butter. One would think that Crawford guarding Combs would have presented mismatch problems.

I thought Augusta did a nice job of mixing up their defenses. They also pressured the Montgomery point guard pretty well. Seemed like Montgomery had a hard time getting their offense started.

In the second half, Montgomery was defending so hard, they were just spent in the fourth quarter. There were a few good shots that it appeared they didn't have the legs for. And with Augusta's ball control, every Montgomery miss meant it would probably be at least a minute before the Indians would get the ball back.

I told someone today that if these two teams played 10 times in Mount Sterling, Augusta might win 1 time.

You're welcome, Panthers.

RP you had Panthers #3 and Mason #5 in final BGP polls. Hope you are picking Royals in upset. LOL

Was hearing when got home that they had to shut the doors and turn some away, is any of that true? Had to be 4500 in there tonight. The changeover between games caused a huge backup

Golly....Needed my disappearing Like button on a dozen of these posts. Anybody know where I lost it?
