Congrats to NCC on the win and a heck of a season for Cooper but they just couldn't stay healthy! I fully expect this team to be back here next year and potentially as the favorite. A lot in the cupboard for Cooper next year

Lawnboy....I really enjoy your unbiased play by play of games. But regarding your comment about the Cooper student section. Do you really think New Cath's student section and basketball teams are choir boys and girls.

 

EVERY student section is guilty of "colorful" language that mom and dad would NOT be proud of....even NewCath.

 

It did stop once they realized who I was since some had seen what I had posted. From late in the 2nd quarter on, when Cooper would make a basket or make a nice play they would say, "write it down Lawnboy, write it down". :lol2:

Shout out to the Cooper Jags and Coach Sullivan on a great season and for not giving up last night, even though it would have been easy to. If I have a kid, that is one coach I would want him to play for! He just gets it and the way he coaches his players up is rare to see.

 

Also wanted to give a shout out to the NCC coaching staff. After the game, a couple of the coaches pulled McNeil aside and spent some time talking to him.

Don't know that I agree. Cooper seemed pretty evenly matched with NCC in the second half. They couldn't buy a basket in the first half. NCC's D was good, but they were just flat missing shots. It happens.

Congrats NCC .... Ben Weyer is a special player, glad to see him getting one more shot ... Tough luck for Cooper, missing Hendrix and full speed Kunkel and Sean McNeil .... They will be very, very tough next year .... (But then again so will CovCath) ...

Couldn't disagree more. Had Cooper been fully healthy their cohesiveness would have been much better. Kunkel and Hendrix were a very tight guard combo and McNeil was unable to fully practice the last month of the season. Add in that with Hendrix going down the last week of the season your bench suddenly becomes a little shorter. A full Cooper team could have and probably would have been much better prepared to beat a good NCC team.

We will never know how this plays out if Cooper was at full strength. I don't feel that they completely "dominated", or "handled" them. In all honesty, I don't think you saw a good game from either team last night. Cooper had an ugly first half, settling for too many jump shots. They did much better once they started driving to the basket in the second half. NCC had an ugly 3rd quarter and let Cooper get back in the game, the three from Weyer at the end of the quarter was huge.

 

Saying Weyer was too much on the boards is also a stretch, with the size advantage he had, I would have expected him to control the inside.... he did not.

Both games were hard to watch. Besides Dixie's band (which was very good), there was not much flow to the games for fans to get excited about. Even the student sections seemed to be rather bored. That is 9th Region basketball, grind it out, survive and advance.

I thought Cooper missed obviously way to many shots in the first half more than NewCaths D effected them.

 

Also what was NewCath shooting behind the arc? I just thought they settled for to many three point attempts rather than drive to the hoop. Outside of Weyer (who was getting doubled down on most the night) down low I don't think the Breds attempted a jump shot.

 

Going to need to hit those threes if they want to beat CovCath.
