They have a lot coming back but will lack height. A clear #2 but a distance 2nd to what CCH brings.

 

This year, fully healthy, they still lose this game. NewCath Dominated. Not a single basket at the rim in the first half. NewCath handled them in regular season as well, lest we forget.

 

Let's not get too carried away. Would have taken quite an effort to beat NewCath.

I am not getting carried away. If Cooper played 4 quarters the way the played the second half I think they would have had every chance to win that game! Credit to NCC, which I have said a million times, they came out jumped on Cooper early and had an answer for every time Cooper seemed to grab momentum.

 

But I also don't know that I would call Cooper a distant #2 next year to CovCath. Cooper beat CovCath this year by 13, even though very early in the season. I liked Cooper matching up against CCH better than NCC because of Weyer. CovCath doesn't have the dominant big man, and please don't say that will be Walters next year. I can easily see CCH and Cooper fighting it out next year if both stay healthy!

CCH and Cooper both return a lot. CCH will return 4 starters next season. I'd say CCH and Cooper will be 1a and 1b but I'm sure CCH will get the preseason nod as #1 just from going further in this years region. But as far as Walters, I have never seen the kid play much, but you never know what a whole offseason can do for a kid that size.

Does Frederick live in OH? If so I have a problem with that and being able to play for CCH. Even though it maybe a KHSAA rule that you can live in OH. and play for a private school in Ky. I think that is a crappy rule. I believe that was the case for the Campbell kid several years ago at Holy Cross. I heard that he had a chauffeur pick him up every day for school. Did Fredericks parents move to NKY or is he using a relatives address to play for CCH. This is nothing against Frederick or his family personally because I do not even know them. It is just my opinion that if you live in OH you should not be able to play for a Ky. Private school. I do not want to get into an exhausting debate that goes on here about public vs private. I will always believe that schools such as Cov.Cath., Trinity and St.X definitely have competitive advantages over public schools and nothing will change my mind.

I'm pretty sure you can't live in Ohio and play for any non-private Boone County school. Or maybe I'm missing something, because I would have happily driven a 6'8" athletically basketball smart kid from Ohio to play under Coach Sullivan this year.

The KHSAA would allow them to play if they are enrolled. The problem in this scenario is that the Boone County school system would not permit him to be enrolled based on where he lives. No different than if someone tried to come from say, Kenton County to play for Cooper, can't enroll because of Boone County Schools rules.

That's not a KHSAA rule. That's a rule Boone schools have implemented.

Belfry comes to mind as a public school that has legally had a slew of out of state (WV) kids play there.

Couldn't disagree more. Had Cooper been fully healthy their cohesiveness would have been much better. Kunkel and Hendrix were a very tight guard combo and McNeil was unable to fully practice the last month of the season. Add in that with Hendrix going down the last week of the season your bench suddenly becomes a little shorter. A full Cooper team could have and probably would have been much better prepared to beat a good NCC team.

 

Then how do you explain the regular season game?

 

Look, I admire Coopers fight with an undermanned team, but let's give the winners their due. They didn't squeak this one out. It wasn't a nail biter. NCC answered every Cooper run. They were Up 20 points, allowed 9 points at half.

 

Sure, you can blame poor shooting but then you have to say that Cooper are not a team that can get a basket inside.

 

Come on guys, the game got close but the final score tells the tale.

 

Good luck next year as they figure to have the 2nd best team in region.

We will never know how this plays out if Cooper was at full strength. I don't feel that they completely "dominated", or "handled" them. In all honesty, I don't think you saw a good game from either team last night. Cooper had an ugly first half, settling for too many jump shots. They did much better once they started driving to the basket in the second half. NCC had an ugly 3rd quarter and let Cooper get back in the game, the three from Weyer at the end of the quarter was huge.

 

Saying Weyer was too much on the boards is also a stretch, with the size advantage he had, I would have expected him to control the inside.... he did not.

 

Weyer had a ton of rebounds and guarded the rim well. This all leads to Cooper shooting from outside and missing. You have to give NCC credit for only allowing 9 points at half. Cooper couldn't even draw a foul brcause they were either blocked at the rim or kicked out for a 3.

 

I realize Cooper not a full strength but also realize this was no nail biter.

 

Up 17 at half and winning by 14 or so is pretty dominant. They were up 20 for parts of the game.

 

Perhaps not pretty or flashy I'll agree but

 

It was a business-like performance.

It is limited when the individual schools can make that decision. If they have the ability to do have special circumstances, they should play within the teams that share those same advantages.
