Tim Couch Was Almost a UT Vol

Featured Replies

Started on what basketball team? The 96, 97, and 98 UK team?

I don't think he could have started on those teams. They were loaded. However, I would love to hear the pre-game show with the call ins wanting to play Couch instead of Antoine.

That's funny to think about.

Couch was so good he would have been the #1 pick at UT, UK or Western as long as they all threw the ball and why wouldn't you with Tim Couch.

Not sure he would of played as much behind Peyton.

Wasn't Tim Couch in college most of the same years Peyton Manning was? Wouldn't he have had only one year as the starter then?

Best athlete to attend UK in the past 25 years? Many thought he could have started on the basketball team and scored +3000 varsity points in HS.

50 of those points were in the Owsley County gym his senior year, which included a few rim rattling dunks. He was a man among boys, but for a 6'5 physically strong built guy he had a smooth jumper that was very accurate. Also a good free throw shooter.

He was very nice to our kids that night that wanted his autograph. They lined up and he signed for about 15 minutes after the game. I'd never seen that before for a high school player in our neck of the woods. Of course the kids wanted the autographs for his football hero status in the mountains at that time, not his basketball. As far as basketball though, he led the state in scoring average his junior year. His senior year he injured his ankle and it hindered his scoring and playing somewhat the second half of the season.

He would have redshirted at UT.

He said he was planning on taking a RS and figuring Petyon would leave early - which didn't happen.

Tim said he was fully aware of how much his accomplishments and recognition mean to Hyden, Leslie County, and the entire mountain region. He said he had a lot of people supporting him.

#1 QB in the country AND he puts up 3,000 points in basketball.

Not going to top that.

I think he coulda had a decent NFL career had he not went to Cleveland

I agree, he just got punished behind that swiss cheese line. Then the shoulder injuries killed his career.

Who knows? I think he would have had at least a good career. Browns should have sat him until they beefed up their OL.

Still holds the title of last QB to take Cleveland to the playoffs.

If he had stayed for his senior year, he probably dodges Cleveland.

And didn't even get to play. Holcomb had 429 yards.
