Tim Couch Was Almost a UT Vol

Still holds the title of last QB to take Cleveland to the playoffs.

Didn't Kelly Holcomb do most of the work that year at qb for the Browns making the playoffs?

Couch broke his leg in the last game of the season.

Couch was 8-6 as a starter Holcomb was 1-1, in 2002

While not great, he still had a career passer rating better than at least 9 NFL HoFers and is 40th in career completion % for all NFL QBs. Not bad for a guy that only played 1 complete season due to injuries from getting pounded playing for that horrible team.

Thank you both. I knew Holcomb did something that year but couldn't remember what.

I wonder if Tim remembers the name Maynard Johnson?:sssh:

I assume that is a former Bird? He mentioned losing to CCH and Highlands in the playoffs.

Maynard only hit Couch about 30 times when he was throwing the ball on a Corner Blitz in the Semi's back in 1995. Maynard only being about 5'-7" and Couch at 6'-5", the Highlands Safety was able to get upper leverage as you can Imagine!

"Rising Blow"

And yes 30 times isn't exaggerating either. Remember Couch threw it 40-50 times a game. That's all they could do. Take away the pass and Leslie Co was very beatable. That's Dale Mueller for you......

I wonder if Hits like a Train "Don Weber" still has the Film Footage of Tim giving us the "Your #1" finger gesture he whipped at us when he was playing Defense and Justin Frisk broke both of Tim's Ankles while Justin was on his way to a few of his 311 yards rushing on the night....They didn't call it Whiskey Row where we stood for nothing!

Couch and Mumme saved UK football from the mess that was Bill Curry. And, to be completely honest, we still weren't great.

Kind of scary to think how bad UK football would be without those two, like you said, UK wasn't that great with them. Trying to think how UK did against UofL during Couch's years. Couch and Yeast blistered UofL his sophomore year on the opening of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. That day was so freaking hot. That may have been Ron Coopers last year, don't recall.

I believe Mumme with Couch were 2-0 against U of L. It was Redman's Sr. year they best UK.
