Trinity/Scott County Scrimmage

Featured Replies

I thought SC only scored 2 TDs with their varsity, one the long Boot run by their QB and the other the flea flicker pass. What was the other TD?

I would believe this assesment 100%

Shamrock 69 is correct-the score was 23-8 when he left in the 3rd quarter.

Sorry- this is wrong. 16-15 after 3 quarters. Trinity did not go for two points after their final TD because... it was a scrimmage.

JV's - Trinity scored about 3 TD's to 1 for SC (I think).

I saw some things to like and some things to work on. The score was 16-15 SC at the end of three quarters when the varsity portion ended. I thought that the Trinity defense looked good except for three or four plays where everyone bought a fake and didn't stay home. I have no doubt that the coaches will fix that. SC is very fast and deceptive. The Trinity linebackers looked very good. A lot of guys played on the d-line. They will be good. It is harder to judge the DBs since SC didn't pass much. On offense, the quarterback and receivers have a lot of work to do to get in sinc. I thought that Petrino had enough time on most plays but he and the receivers were not always making the same read. That will improve very quickly with a little more time. The running game was okay. All in all, not a bad first effort. It had enough to encourage and enough to work on to keep the players from losing their focus.

Shamrock 69 is correct-the score was 23-8 when he left in the 3rd quarter. Trinity scored again and it was 23-15 at the end of the 3rd. Then in the 4th quarter the game switched from being a "regular game" the first 3 quarters to being a "controlled scrimmage", where each team would run either 5 or 10 plays at a time. If a team scored in that period, they would not kick an extra point or try for 2 points. And instead of the other team getting the ball after a score, sometimes the team that scored got the ball back at their 30 to keep running their set of plays. I know that happened with Trinity at least twice in the 4th. It was hard to follow the scoring during the 4th, but Trinity played much better in the 4th and outscored Scott County by 2 or 3 to 1, and that's why I posted earlier that if you combined the points for the entire game, Trinity would have won by around 7-10 points.

Another interesting thing was that this was a scrimmage for the officials as well. We had 9 officials for the game, and they worked in and out of the game all night. The white hat we had was a veteran referee, and he kept tight control of the game. But a couple of the other fellas came in at the referee position, and one fella in particular let a few things go on after the whistle that could've led to problems, although order was restored quickly. Then when the white hat came back in, the game tightened up again considerably.

Also, I don't recall seeing any injuries at all, which is great for a scrimmage.

Thanks dr1. I thought that's what the score was. Thanks.

Thanks dr1. I thought that's what the score was. Thanks.

The score was NOT 23-8...geez.

Would someone who was at the scrimmage please explain how the scoring was figured? It was announced prior to the scrimmage that actual game rules would apply for the first three quarters and that the scoreboard would be set to zero at the end of each quarter. Also, I had to leave about halfway through the third quarter. This is what I thought I saw:

1st quarter - SC scores first and the extra point was good 7

1st quarter - SC sacks Nick for a safety 9

ROCKS score and make 2 point conversion 8

2nd quarter - SC scores 7 -0

Midway through 3rd quarter - SC scores 7-0

That's when I left. I thought it was 23-8 as I reported earlier. Thanks.

Shamrock.....I was watching and for the life of me now can't remember. I do know the first quarter was 7-0....then they went back to 0-0 on the scoreboard. Petrino was sacked for a safety in the second quarter and Scott County won 9-8.....I thought the third quarter was 7-0 for Trinity but I might be wrong...I know Phillips kid scored a TD for Trinity. Scott County drive down but Trinity blocked a field goal. Like I said I don't remember a TD, but could have been. Trinity did dominate the final quarter and I noticed the sophomore LBer everyone has been talking about didn't play a lot didn't play much in the first three quarters but I had to leave after his ridiculous hit in the final quarter. Anyone know his name? No. 98 Jordan something....because he's going to be a STUD!

All in all, good scrimmage. Scott County has a lot to work with and these two scrimmages will help the Cardinals a lot. Trinity also has a lot to work with but I didn't think a bad effort for a first scrimmage!

Scoot county good be on the rise. I really can't tell I do know one thing though Trinity will not play this poor this season. Big ups to Scott great game guys I would love to see you all compete against the 2 Evil Empires.

I think some of my fellow Trinity fans "gave" SC a score on #7's second breakaway run. However #44 Nick Hobbs ran him down and prevented a TD. Then the Rocks held. SC missed FG wide right. SC had another threat deep into Rock territory thwarted when a bad snap resulted in a sack by #19 Andrew Deeds. The final after 3 quarters was SC by one point. Congrats Coach McKee and staff on a great scrimmage that I'm sure will help bothe teams down the road.

Just a little tid bit. The last one or two possesions of Scott Co. in the third Quarter; our J.V. Offense was In. Oh! And #7 was our J.V. Qb. Cody Andrews was injured and didn't play.

Thanks Trinity fans for the hospitality and good sportsmanship.

Good luck Rocks! Hope to see you guys at PaPa Johns.:ylsuper:

Got that Wilson Sears party line propoganda down don't you?

It appears that you were there!! the score at half time SC-16 TRINITY - 15

2nd half TRINITY Defense did the job!!! TRINITY scored 4 TDs SC 1 TD.

I just finished watching the GAME FILM and counted each and every TD, Touch Back, 2 pt. conversions etc.:thumb:

I`m very sure of ALL of the points that was sacored and over all TRINITY won last night and would again. ( providing no injuries)

All of these scrimmage threads kill me....but this one takes the cake.....

We have several posters arguing over the score...who won?...by how much?..the format was goofy......yeah but it was our JVs playing then.....

Bottom Line is that the score means absolutely squat!....The only important thing is that both teams got to run plays against someone else, they got JV players some reps, and to find out:

1. What players fit where in our depth charts?

2. What are weaknesses?

3. What are our strengths?

Even the score of the early season games mean nothing....Take Trinity...since this is their thread....I believe one year they started the season 0-4 and still took state.....

It is what you learn and how you respond that matters!

Someone else has the right idea here as well

I believe last year that both the Seahawks and Steelers each lost more games than they won in the preseason...

Excellent take on things Xman

I can't believe I'm posting this (just got home from St. Joes) but I agree with Xman 85. Relax, its practice. We're talkin' about practice.

Here's the truth nothing but the truth without rose colored glasses.

Varisity only

S.C. / T

1st Quarter - 07 / 00

2nd Quarter - 09 / 08

3rd Quarter - 00 / 07

Total - 16 / 15

We all know Trinity's Coach used most of his players to find out who is the best to put where. That's why we call them scrimmages.

After watching approx. 7 or 8 yrs. of this scrimmage between these two schools. This by far has gave Scott Co. Players heart and mostly confidencethat they can play with the two powerhouses. Which we have not seen in the past.
