9th Region: Is this true?

Hey, here's an idea. Let's ask the kids where they would like to play.

Looks like the BGP click has rallied the troops to stamp out other options.:jump:

Just curious does anyone know of the last few years that it was held at the HS gyms were they sold out? Were people just to lazy to stand in line to get a ticket or whine because it was hot or you had to sit to close to someone? Are those kind of stats on the KHSAA site?

I'm not sure who makes up said BGP-clique, but I guess I'd be in by association. I am the non-traditionalist that very much prefers the regional tourney being at BB&T versus the days at Conner, Holmes, Ryle (I think), etc. I don't have to leave work early, stand outside waiting in line, and end up jammed between folks on a bleacher seat. I much prefer to pay to park in a secure lot, walk in, buy my ticket, grab a $5 large diet pepsi for me and a $4 Dr. Pepper for the kid, maybe a bag of peanut M&M's and a bag of Skittles, since we've likely already had a nice Skyline dinner since there was no need to get there to earn my spot en queue, and then find a seat that I want and relax. The video-board is nice, the staff is largely very nice, even though the dude scanning bar codes at the top of the steps last night was a little saltier than I'd prefer, and the environment for the boys' games that I've attended has been great. If NCC and CovCath play on Monday night, we are likely to have 7,000+ people there, and there isn't a H.S. gym in the vicinity that could accommodate that.

I've been to over 100 H.S. post-season games at Cintas Center, and have spoken to hundreds of kids before and after the games, and never once did one of them say, "man, I wish this game was at Mason H.S. instead of here." Not. Once. Did it always have 6,000+, no, but it did frequently, especially when they'd have 4 games on a Saturday in split sessions. Really, really good crowds, and the kids loved the experience.

You are correct about cliques at BGP, lawildcat, ukmustang, MentschTrachtGottLacht, etc. They could care less it appears about good people getting ripped off by an arena, then they call people whiners and names instead of intelligently discussing the points. If the players (girls especially) are content to play in from of 9,000 + empty seats, let it be so. Seeing the photos from last night's CovCath-Newport game, it looked like a big empty tomb. The arena looks like it's 3/4 empty. What a sad situation. Meanwhile at Henry County, 5,000+ fans, packed gym, great atmosphere. But some people like their cozy, comfy seats and plenty of leg room. lol

For what it's worth- You typing the same thing 85 times in the same thread does not constitute "lots of people".

Hilarious that you've never set foot in the place yet continue this diatribe.

Been fortunate to have my daughter's team play there the past three years- mostly in front of a ghost town. Wouldn't trade it for anything and neither would she.

Congratulations for playing in front of 100 fans in a 10,000 seat arena. Glad the experience is so wonderful.

The problem with these forums and the main reason I don't post that often is because the threads get out of control. When I posted the money thing i never once said it's everyone's opinion or did i say the athletes didn't like it. I was just following up on someone asking if it should be held back at the high school gyms. I added the price as factor for me. I know the arena is there to make money and I know people work there just like all the volunteers at the high schools but I think if you keep it at a bigger arena the attendance will drop especially for the girls game. No i don't have facts to back that up but just my thought. I will still go to my teams games no matter what. I may not go to others. I'm not from Ft. Thomas so if someone could draw me a map of all the free parking I will know for the next time.:D. From my personal experience no game at BB&T will ever get anywhere near the 9th final in 1989 Scott Vs Holy Cross down at Holmes. The atmosphere and noise was ridiculous. AS A FAN not a player you will never get BB&T like that in my opinion.

Is that any better or worse than playing in front of 100 fans in a gym that holds 5,000?

LIKE! Your post is 100% correct! The atmosphere of a packed gym, not a half-filled mausoleum, is the best experience for high school players. But don't tell that to the elite of BGP and their clique of pro-big arena and smallish crowd mentality.

Holmes holds about 3,000 if I remember right. Why not play it there or Conner?

Schools can't make as much money at those gyms.

Who did I call a whiner or a name of any sort? I'm trying to intelligently discuss the point, YOU are coming back with terms like "ripped off", "3/4 empty", and "empty tomb", none of which is accurate. I'm stating why I like it where it is, as a fan, you're going on and on without ever having been there. Since Owen County has unfortunately been eliminated, why don't you make plans to come up on Monday night and take it in for yourself? If you still feel that way, all good. Maybe your perspective will change slightly. Maybe it won't.

However, if you are going to paint with a broad brush about cliques and name-calling, and lump me in, please point out where my behavior or posting style was insulting or littered with name calling.

I explained why I like the games there. You offered up 3rd party comments and then hyperbole. Both are accurate representations of what happened in this thread? Right?

Z, your opinion is, I'm sure, shared by MANY folks in NKY that want high school sports to be an inexpensive outing for families (and fathers and sons, in your example), and in some cases, sadly, it isn't. I get that. Your posts are always solid and on-point, that is why you should post more often. You add a lot to the conversations.

You're right, the roof is rarely lifted in these regional tourneys, although I will say last year's CovCath / NewCath game at BB&T was as loud and feisty as any game I've heard in that building, and the atmosphere was great. Not every game is that way, to be sure.

Didn't answer my question...

For what it's worth, I'm fine hosting it at NKU, Holmes, Conner or Ryle. Ups & downs to all places.

Since Owen County has unfortunately been eliminated, why don't you make plans to come up on Monday night and take it in for yourself? If you still feel that way, all good. Maybe your perspective will change slightly. Maybe it won't.

And maybe, just maybe he can get one of those fancy expensive hot dogs for free. :D

This is where I would love to see the actual numbers that attend these games over the tournament. Were the schools turning away people back in the day when it was at the HS gyms and missing out on money? I don't know how the money works but I bet the schools probably don't get any money from parking or concessions at BB&T. I'm sure someone in the know could comment on that. With that said if they charged the same $8 dollars a ticket to get in and they never went over 3000 and not turn people away would they not make the same amount of money if not more if they split the concessions? Just asking because all the times I went maybe except for the final game there didn't seem like 3000 people in the stands but then again I didn't count them all.

Number 1, I'm an Oldham County fan, not Owen County. If you had read my posts you would have known it.

Number 2, I've seen a lot of snarky comments by you toward other posters. You seem to have some I'm better than you mentality because you like Covington Catholic in many of them.

Number 3, if ONE person is complaining in this thread, there are 20 or 30. NOT ME. I ASKED A QUESTION ABOUT SIGNS IN THE ARENA NOT BEING ALLOWED.

What I have discovered is there are a number of people up your way who are not happy with the regional being in said arena. If you disagree, fine.
