To be clear, the boys side IS better. I'm not sure why someone saying that would bother you.

No argument there but truth be told it is much easier for a girl to get a scholarship to a top notch D-1 program than it is for a boy because of the overall numbers of across the nation playing basketball at a high level.

Not sure if I agree or disagree, but I would like to hear the criteria that you used to come to that conclusion. Are you looking at number of college players? D1 players? Top tier players coming out of Kentucky on the boys side versus the girl side?

100% myth. Not even close and I say that as a father of a female athlete.

I have admittedly not seen Creech play...but I have been around girls basketball for about 20 years now. Boley is one of the top 4 or 5 girls that I have ever witnessed play the game from the state of Kentucky. She does it all for her team.....the difference is (not Creech's fault), Boley has a supporting cast where she doesnt have to shoot every shot and score every point. You put Boley on the Jenkins team and playing the Jenkins schedule, she is the all time leading scorer in Kentucky. Could you say the same if you put Creech on Etown's team? That is my argument that Boley should win the award. Time will tell.

Last year, on the boys side, you had a couple of D1s (Bolden, McDonald) and on the girls side I think you only had Turner from Holy Cross. Again, I don't have the statistics at my fingertips, but as far as D1s go, I think it is a pretty small number on the boys and the girls side. Surely someone out there has the list of D1 signees on the boys side in the girls side from last year. I'd be interested to see how they stack up.

I believe the big girl from St Henry (Neace) went D1 last year. She went to Kent State.

Lets think of it this way, which player is most valuable to their team? No discussion there. If it was Creech who got the exposure of playing for a Louisville area team and Boley who played for a rural mountain teem, who would be getting the votes?

Have you seen Creech play at all? If you beat teams by 80, I don't care if you're passing it to a chair. The other kids on her team hardly do anything because they never get the ball! And is Ms Bball decided by who does more for their team or is it to recognize the best player in the state?

 

And if you really think this has ANYTHING to do with playing in Louisville vs in the mountains, you are naive. That's saying she's not getting the exposure. Didn't you read where she was on ESPN?? Can't get much more exposure than that!

 

Let me ask you this. If Jenkins played SK every game of the season, how many points would you think she would average? Do you really think she'd get 50 a game if SK really played to win and shut her down for all 4 qtrs?

And with your "switch" scenario, you are making the assumption Creech would be as good as she is at Jenkins. If she was playing in Louisville, she may only be another good player in an area with a a lot of other good players. She may not get half of the exposure she is getting now because she would most likely "blend in" more in Louisville. And to your point...have to share the ball more!

Creech sounds familiar to a men's player back in the late 70's early 80's called Ervin Stepp. Stepp averaged 56pts a game against very suspect competition and he beat out Dicky Beal from Holmes for Mr Baskeball. It was a complete travesty back then as Beal was about 10x better than Stepp plus Beal was an All American being recruited by all the top coaches in D1, but the voters fell in love by the 56 a game average. Stepp went on to Eastern KY and sat the wood while Beal led UK to the 1984 Final Four. Hopefully this doesn't happen to Boley and I don't believe it will. Boley wins Ms Badketball.

In a thread somewhere I saw someone asked how Creech did in summer travel ball. On our EYBL team this summer Boley was either the top scorer in the league or second( cant remember how it ended but Boley and Joiner Holmes who is a Texas commit were going back in forth all year 1&2). Boley got about 29 minutes of the 32 for us. Creech would have got about 8/10 minutes a game with this group this summer. Now laugh if you will but we are talking about a national stage and only the best players play and produce. There is not driving in the lane and a 10 foot pull up for a 5-8 guard most of the time. Close outs are faster and that stuff gets swatted in the third row just like the mens game, plus its not near as easy to beat a elite athlete off the dribble to get that shot. And at her size she would have to shoot the three at a high clip to be successful and she does not. Thats where she will really struggle in college unless she improves the outside shot and quickness to guard a elite athlete also. The best players can not only score, but you have to be able to guard the best. Complete players, whether its in high school, college or the pros can do both. Boley can and has proven she can on both sides of the ball.

 

Creech is a good player no doubt and I applaud her for getting the 5000 points, but I do not applaud her coach who allowed this to happen at the expense of other players. Call me the bad guy if you want, but I am one of many who shares this view on this.

 

But to pick anyone other than Boley for Miss Basketball will be a utter travesty.

Okay, let's put this to bed. What Creech has done at any level is OUTSTANDING! There have been thousands of players play at all different levels of competition across the state for many years and no one has scored more points than her. Incredible accomplishment.

 

But let's compare the two since we insist on having this conversation. I feel like anyone saying Creech deserves it over Boley cannot have seen Boley.

 

Boley is is better ball handler. Better outside shooter. Better rebounder. Shares the ball better. Better defender. And plays several games against D1 competition. She has PG skills in a long 6'2" frame. And anyone that doesn't think she couldn't do the same thing as Creech if she were in the same situation is silly. If you hand her the ball and tell her to score as many as possible against that competition, there's no doubt in my mind she would be the scoring leader in the state.

 

Excellent points and you are correct on all of them EXCEPT, Boley being a better ball handler, have seen them both play several times and Creech is a much better ball handler.

I'll trust you on that's one.
