Very similar scenario played out on the boys side in 1980. Ervin Stepp played at Phelps, averaged 54 PPG junior and senior seasons, while Dicky Beal averaged 26 PPG as a senior and was recruited by the top programs in the country. Phelps was awarded Mr. Basketball, went to EKU but never started and wound up transferring to a small school (Alice Lloyd?). Dicky went on to start most of his four years at UK, led them to the final four and was named the East Regional most outstanding player in 1984, was drafted in the fourth round by the Atlanta Hawks. I personally look at it like this: Ervin Stepp's name will be forever atop the KHSAA Record books for the scoring milestone he achieved, but he shouldn't be there as the best player in the state because he clearly wasn't. Creech will forever be identified is a great scorer, and will have her name in the record books for her scoring achievement, but when you factor in 50 and 60 and 70 point performances against very bad teams in very big blowouts, I think it is demeaning to award her the Miss Basketball Award when she is indisputably not the best player in the state.

Let me say that both are OBVIOUSLY outstanding players.

I understand why some people don't like the girls game. Most men that get into the girls side do so because they have a daughter that plays or have a friend or family member that plays. Once you watch the girls for a while you learn to love and appreciate the game for what it is. Most continue to follow even after their daughters/family members are out of it.

 

I apologize for coming off so abrasive. I find a lot of people who think the boys side is better and it struck a nerve. I love both sides, but would not have ever watched a girls game if it wasn't for a family member

She scored 93 in a game where they beat the team by 80!!! The same team they beat by 79 (86-7) the game before!! Why is she in the game and why is she taking so many shots in a game up 80???

Well if that's the case, it's a little better. But they won both games by a total of 159! Still a lot of points and shots for blowout wins! And seems to be a trend in games they win easily. Do they only have 5-6 kids on the team? That may explain it.

The state of KY will be a national joke if Erin Boley doesn't win Miss Basketball. She is one of the top 5 players to ever play in KY(maybe the best), she is a Naismith Award finalist for the national high school player of the year, and she has already been named to the McDonald's All-American Game.

 

ETown plays one of the toughest schedules every year and Boley has scored over 3000 points with other great players around her who are scoring too. If they switched places, Boley would have broken the state scoring record as a Sophomore playing Jenkins Schedule.

I think it will be interesting to see how the voting turns out. Whitney Creech has a ton of support and people who have votes that have publicly stated she has their vote and no one else. She gets enough of those votes and she just might win. I think it will be kind of close.

I agree. Regardless what we all think, you still have a kid that is the states all time leading scorer in a year where you have arguably the best girls Bball player/prospect to ever come out of the state. It should be close. But if you're looking for the best Bball player, it's Boley. Both are deserving and in any other year, Ms Creech most likely runs away with it.

It explains that I don't follow girl's basketball...at all. But, I know who Whitney Creech is, who she plays for, that she has almost 5,300 points and that she was on SportsCenter. That's all I'm saying. I know nothing about Boley and I'm sure she's a fine basketball player. @PurplePride92 is a little shady but I'll take everyone else's word for it :lol2:
