Well the state sends winners from 16 regions separated by geography. The people that attend the girls state tournament usually are there because their team is in it. You don't think Murray would have had a better crowd in a more central location? Same for several of those teams.

 

Look I think th facility is great, but it's hard to hold a state championship in a corner of the state.

 

Like I said...Memorial Coliseum on UK's Campus would be my choice!

If that's true, it doesn't matter where it's held, does it? 16 regions, someone is going to have to travel. BUT - if the goal is to attract more people not directly connected to the teams, the smartest play is to hold it near more people - which would mean keep it in Lou, Lex, or NKY.

Most regions have payouts to the teams that qualify to play in the region. i think some actually share between all teams in the region. This would subsidize the extra costs. Or at least make it less painful.

Not a bad choice, for sure. Frankfort Civic Center may be the most centrally located venue. But was it broken when held at WKU??? I maintain that it was not.

Lets face it, this tournament will go wherever KHSAA can get the best deal for them. I think it would be awesome to host this at Rupp Arena! It would also be cool if the Yum Center got involved in either the boys or the girls! I know money drives everything but I would like to see attendance numbers if held in either Lexington or Louisville.

The Girls State Tournament was held at the Frankfort Civic Center (now Convention Center) during the 80's.

 

I too think that it would be a suitable venue - smaller arena makes for a more intimate setting. Plenty of hotels, eateries in the area. It seems to work well for the "A".

NKY area has more to offer than WKU, Frankfort, Lexington or Louisville. The girls loved playing in the arena; much nicer than Diddle or Frankfort.

You're not missing anything. It's great at NKU. Bold predictions that it will leave after next year is based on... what? Because someone in Region xx had to drive farther this year? Please.

I seems to me some people don't like change, I agree WKU wasn't broken but I am sure they had their struggles when the first started the Sweet 16 there. I hope they give NKU the same opportunity to correct their mistakes or whoever's mistake it was or if there was any at all but giving them 2 years isn't enough time IMO. NKU is a great venue and I hope its stays for years to come.

According to this map (http://www.howderfamily.com/blog/state-centers-population/) the population center of Kentucky is just north of Springfield in Washington County, 140 miles from Northern Kentucky University and and 114 miles from Western Kentucky University.

The geographical center of Kentucky is in Marion County, 92 miles from Diddle and 142 miles from BB&T. I will say that BB&T is a nice facility. I was dead set against the tourney moving even though it was to my benefit. I'm sure they will learn from their growing pains.

There is a difference between geographical center and population center. Geographical is the midpoint of all LAND in Kentucky, population is the midpoint of all PEOPLE in Kentucky. If you are arguing convenience for the most people, population center is more important than geographical center.

Thanks for the lesson. I am aware that you posted the population center. For reference, I decided to post the geographic center. And for reference, seems like smaller schools in more remote locations can pack the house better than large schools from larger communities. People still must travel from all 16 regions.
